Me and my mate are having a debate. If you express breat milk. For your baby to have in a bottle how long before it will need pouring away.
Is it like formula milk where you have to throw it after an hour i think it is.
Please help solve this debate. x

The same rules apply for all milk, It should be thrown away after 1 hour.
No reheating unless already warm and no rechilling or refreezing.

If you express milk so long as you put in straight in the fridge it can be kept in the fridge for 24 hours (although this site (http://www.parenting.com/parenting/pregnancy/article/0,19840,646727,00.html)says 48 hours) or up to 3 months in the freezer. It will then need warming up when the baby needs it. This site (http://www.thegoodbirth.co.uk/storing_and_using_expressed_milk)has some further info on keeping milk at different temperatures and how long its safe to keep it if its been offered to the baby.

I was pretty sure it was a lot more than 1 hour. Freezing it is a great option...I used to build up a good stock of it, which was a lifesaver at times...also, I could take it out frozen and take it with me and it would defrost slowly, kept nice and cold, until I needed it.

Great idea, me and my mate came to a quits on it. But i think the feezing idea is great. I will be breatfeeding when i have my baby. And thats how the debate started.
Thanks guys for advice. x
