View Full Version : Sophisticated night spots in Sheffield?
goldenfleece 26-12-2004, 10:57 Where can you go in Sheffield for a really 'sophisticated' night out? I dont mean 'trendy' or somewhere that sells designer bottled lager, but where you can get a decent champagne, food, and a quality decor environment and a somewhat more selective or affluent clientele than the Casbah!! I dont mean just a restaurant either as there are a few of those, but a nightclub or a late bar that shows a bit of class and style, and is not just full of drunks swigging on lager. Any ideas? Need a decent place to entertain a couple of business contacts coming to Sheffield, who actually live in london so tend to be used to being entertained at very classy clubs on expenses.
have you tried West 10? (i think its still called that)they serve food and i think open late it used to be trippets 2 and its on the main row of shops at Ranmoor. serves good wine and food. its a wine bar restraunt type place and it always looks busy.
goldenfleece 26-12-2004, 11:49 Yes I know West 10 very well. trouble is its not exactly City centre which is what I was looking for really, and its not a nightclub either which is essential. And West 10 is somewhat small, but I do believe they do good champagne.
Someone in the City must cater for good International cuisine food, vintage champagne, dancing and quality lager lout free clubbing......Leeds, London and Manchester have such places so why not Sheffield????
Someone says Kingdom has a VIP suite but from what I have heard about the sort of people who use this club I was not impressed, and it does not sound like a sophisticated entertainment venue with any kind of exclusive policy.
Gatecrasher One makes itself out to be the most 'sophisticated' club in Sheffield and has a VIP section, but the type of clientele it'd attract would depend on the night.
The One Eleven Club would seem quite suitable if the guests enjoy jazz. Sola also seems a good candidate and it has a late license at weekends.
You're not going to want to hear this....
Are you trying to do business with these guys or impress them?
Sometimes the two aren't the same.
Why is a night club essential? Is it a facet of the business you're in? I've found that little business gets transacted in night clubs, and if you're having to go to places based on the opinions of others then it's not necessaily your usual metier or environment either.
Unless crucial - seeing bands, getting a feel for a place before investing in it, etc. I'd seriously consider taking them to somewhere that's more your usual place, just slightly more upmarket.
And as for London based business people being used to better places, I've done my fair share of schmoozing with media and IT people from London and some of the places I've been taken to are absolute tips...:)

Erm... Banus possibly? I would eat elsewhere first though.
One Eleven would seem a good place to suggest...
...but it really depends what you want and what you mean by "sophisticated"...

Indeed yes. Thanks for the tip.
there is the place where Cassablancas moved to. Off West Street. Chilled, classy and relaxed.

T'ain't Casablancas anymore - it's just called Regent Terrace, I think. Not been since it changed... :( What's it like these days? I want to try it, but I kind of can't face it - too many happy memories of Casablancas!
I also definitely echo the 111 Club recommendations. Fabulous place, for food, drinks and music.
if they are broad minded you could try peppermint elephant. Tends to be slightly less raucous and more relaxed, fairly expensive to get in with a tight dress code. Sells champagne. You'd have to eat somewhere else first though, and put up with young women taking there clothes off all night.

This is always the main thing I look for in any venue! ^_~ I'll have to go again. Do you know when they have the pianist in?

I dont think I will have any trouble with that at all. On my way now.....
You could try the Wig and Pen behind the Cathederal.

ReginaldD 28-12-2004, 15:26 Hi, Sola bar is a cool little bar which also does food but only opens til' midnight, the Greenroom (opposite Devonshire Green) is relaxed and is a more mature bar.
Echo the idea of wig and pen - excellent food, cool interior, no idiots, decent champagne list, supper licence for diners... worth a go i say
What about Takapuna?

JonJParr 31-12-2004, 10:38 Thyme at Crosspool. They do serve excellent cuisine and fine wines.
well it was only a suggestion, im not very sophisticated so i guess i cant help
Go to 'The Grapes' nice friendly pub with some interesting charactes :? :suspect:
Hehe- cheap beer though
Once I was at a party at Trippets Wine Bar, bottle of beer 2.50!!!! (I'm not a wine drinker).
We thought, stuff this- when we need a beer we'll go across to the Grapes and then come back
Theres always the one on Victoria Quays- i think its called bluewater. Well away from the stella fuelled mayhem that is west street, very mellow, touch pricey but not right bad.
bigbifter 01-01-2005, 19:21 try the magpie on lowedges road

Or the Grennel Mower. Classy venues.
cathypoos 06-01-2005, 12:08 I went to Regents Terrace last night based on the recommendations on Sheffield Forum, and it's great! I really would recommend people give this place a go...I'll certainly be going back.
NatalieSheff 06-01-2005, 12:16 hen and chicken in town:D :hihi:
A possible dubious interpretation of sophistication, but how about one of the casinos…Napoleons, up on Eccy Road, its bound to attract those that are wishing to spend, as a result I would imagine that they have a reasonable champagne list, and I have heard the food is excellent.
Ditto the napoleons idea- absolutly amazing food and good champers, plus giving them £50 each to spend in the casino is a far better idea than going to a club- its more interactive with your clients!!!
I'm really enjoying the Ruby Lounge at the moment!
Origionally Dickens (choke- i kid you not). It's been re-invented as a lovely, warm, atmospheric bar.
I have been amazed! It's also a nice place to enjoy early evening drinks or week days when the music is soft, candles are alight and the seats are available.
If you want some classier DJ entertainment- things get a bit louder later on.
There arn't enough bars like this one in town....and they arn't even paying me for this!! Good Job fella's. Keep it up. ;bigsmile:
BertieBasset 09-01-2005, 19:10 get them to bring their wives and then you can tickle their fancy at www.lachambre.biz , they'll never forget the experience.....LOL
Its good to hear we are doing it right - I play sophisticated wednesday and then a bit more up fo ri ton fridays - still with that classy slant to the party. Keep em coming people.

S'quse me for not knowing the name of the street, but it's on one of the connecting streets between West Street and Division Street. Yates is on the corner a little further down. The doorway is a little set back.
