anyone got any ideas how you would stand on getting a green card (staying and working for good in america) if....

you have a sister living and working in america with her boyfriend.

im guessing she could kinda sponser or something after a certain amount of time as a resident. but not sure whats what.

im pretty sure you can have a maximum of 3months as a visitor, and as long as your course is if you plan to study.

just wondering

Also try immigration forum (http://boards.immigrationportal.com/) In the past I found it extremely good for finding out about immigration matters. You can either search for your answer or merely ask it. I doubt if she will be able to sponsor you if she is only a green card holder herself. You need to find out what kind of visa that she has. If she is a citizen then maybe she can sponsor you.
On this forum they have a topic called "Family Based Green Cards Through Marriage and Relatives" Post your question there. The Forum is run by an immigration lawyer so he will either answers the questions or other people with similar experience.
Good luck.

I had a search around on that forum myself and found someone else asking that question. The answer was that only a US citizen can sponsor a sibling. Green card holders or people on work visas cannot. Sorry.

I originally came here on a 6 month B2 visitors visa. I then changed it to a student visa. I was allowed to work 20 hours a week on the college campus. However you have to be a full time student. If you drop to part time you can be deported for violation of your visa. The student visa was the easiest way of staying and working, and getting an education at the same. Check that out as a possibility.
