hi last year my mum put in for higher rate disability for my sister who has Downs Syndrome, Asthma, rumatoid artiritus (dont know if spelt right)
plus other health issues.
Because she already gets lower rate and that people from social security kept telling my mum that my sister was intitled to higher rate so she did and got turned down for it.
A few months later someone else from social security came to see my mum and sister and told my mum to put in for it again as she is entitled to it.
we are now waiting to hear about the claim again.
all i want to know is did other people have trouble like this and what happened?
many thanks

Is it the mobility or care component?
It's always hard and alot of people have to go to through having their claim reassesed and even an appeal before they get what they ask for. I had to appeal for my disability on both components, it's all a matter of how you fill in your form and the amount of information given.
You can't afford to write anything positive and you have to lay bare everything that your sister can't do without mentioning anything about them that is good and that they can sometimes do for themselves.
It's very disheartening and can be a horrible soul destroying thing to go through because it makes you focus on the disability and not the person behind it.
Good luck with it and keep fighting, it will be worth it in the end even if it's painfull in the meantime.

I know several people who this has happened to including people who had little mobility due to broken backs and others who suffer from asphasia due to a stroke so you can imagine what that's like for them.
