Does anyone know about DVD Recorders I have just bought a samsung recorder, the features on it are really good but when it`s recording or playing back a recording the machine is noisy, it has a sort of buzz going on! like you can hear the disc revolving. the instuctions say it has a fan that should not be abstructed so perhaps it`s that i can hear.
i cannot decide whether to keep it or not, it may drive me mad, shame because the features are cool.
Anyone know if this is normal or have i got a duff machine. Thanks
I bought one about 3 weeks ago and it is silent except when it is first turned on. Then it makes a 'whirring' noise until it has initialised.
As my DVD recorder is not a Samsung, it would be foolish of me to say it is duff but it does look a bit :suspect:
Thanks Vidster you have helped me decide its going back, what make is yours by the way, is it a Ram one? I like the timeslip feature.
Mine is a LG DR4912. Don't be fooled by the name, do a review search and you will not find many bad ones.
I paid £190 from Atkinsons on the Moor but you can get one online for approx £160.
The good thing about it is the fact that it supports both -DVD and +DVD formats. You can also make it ALL region with a simple code!.
When i first recorded with mine i found it would stick while in playback. This settled down after a few recordings and everything is fine with it now.
I personally wouldnt touch anything other than a Panasonic recorder at the moment...
Although not widely used DVD-RAM offers the best performance for watching back programs, and if you want to record for another DVD player you can record to DVD-R (the most widely acccepted form of single layer DVD for recordables on players)
The ones which record in both + and - are ok too, but beware of recorders which stick to just the one format (esp. +R/W!)
Another vote for the Panasonic. I have the hard disk version which is brilliant for editing out the adverts and then burning to DVD. The timeslip feature is the thing to look out for if you're in the market for one.
I have the Phillips DVD-70.. its not bad.. just cocks up now and again.
But the quality is perfect on every recording I have done so far.
