Boggard Lane behind the old Middlewood Hospital.

And of course, a doctored sign for Penistone Road (namely, the tone painted over).

Jeffcock Road & Willey Street :D
When i worked on the Wicker, i remember two young girls giggling as
they asked me where Whiley Steet was.
They were obviously too embarrassed to ask for Willey street. :hihi:

Best I ever saw was not in Sheffield but in Ipswich--a street called Coprolite St.

I think someone with a sense of humour named it because a lot of the guano exported from South America came into that port.

There used to be a Grope**** Lane in many mediaeval English cities where prostitutes would work and live. The name derives directly from the words grope (sexual touching), and **** (female genitalia). In the more prudish Victorian times the names were changed.

On the somewhat prudish Sheffield Forum I still have to subtitute the offending word with four asterisks, but a quick searckh of Wikipedia will show an interesting scholarly article on the subject.

Anyone passing by Hagley might want to look up a wonderful place called Bell End. It's tragically a whole couple of miles from Lickey End. Aah...

Ahh yes. Germaine Greer did a piece about this on that programme that examines English words and their origins. I have a giggle each time I pass The Grapes pub in Burngreave. All places called Grope **** were changed to Grapes or Grape
