Went to see Hairspray at the flicks on Tuesday and its absolutely fab. Great movie for a girls night out, laughed and laughed as did the rest of the audience. My opinion best film of 2007 so far

I want to see that. Cos that new lass that's in it looks quite attractive to say she's on the plump side.

Me and my friend loved it :D We came out all happy and smiley, as did the rest of the audience. Made us want to sing and dance about too. Definitely one of the most fun movies about

The original is better because :

a) Devine, Ricky Lake and Debbie Harry are in it
b) John Travolta isn't in it

Loved the original, so went in with trepadation to the updated musical version. Whilst I still prefer the original, I found myself tapping my feet to the tunes throughout. Travolta, however, was terrible in it, but the rest of the cast more than made up for it.

Aw come on the Walken/Travolta moment is class!

It was an excellent film - i came out and started singing for the rest of the evening as if life was a musical. It's got a real feel good factor about it.

Also I've already mentioned this but Queen Latifah is great in it!

Is this generation of film makers so bereft of talent that nearly every film made at the moment is either a remake or a sequel.

Ive seen both versions and these are my opinions of both.
new version
They sang their own songs in this one and I thought the opening song was very good. Had that feel good feeling about it. But after that it went a bit flat, until later on when Elijah Kelly/seaweed started to sing ,(who i thought was the best singer on the film.)
All in all the singing was good but the acting wasn't, didnt like Travolta's stuffed dummy version of Edna Turnblad. The dancing was ok but not enough of it.

old hairspray
They didn't sing their own songs in this but the soundtrack was brilliant, the late Divine's dual portrayal of Edna Turnblad and Mr Hodgepile was hilarious and well acted. The rest of the cast acted well too. The storyline was much more grittier than the new one. But at the same time much funnier.
The Dancing was some of the best ive ever seen on a film and lots of it too.
Im off now to purchase the original on dvd £5.99 from Play.com. As ive just convinced myself.

Can anyone tell me the actor's name who played Travolta's husband. Been trying to remember all week!

Christopher Walken - he made the film worthwhile for me!

I thought it looked bad from the ads but i work in the cinema so i was made to watch it, and oh my god it a cracker film! So well put together, and there's a song like every 3 minutes!

I never saw the original film but thought this version was ok. I am a big Grease fan and I don't think any musical is ever going to top that one although I enjoyed the music. I thought John Travolta was hilarious in it especially when he was dancing and Zac Efron is gorgeous - Those eyes
