bladesufc1 09-08-2007, 14:05 I think they'll be over 90+ Points this season if all goes well for the blades.
I honestly cant see another team beating us this season, this is possibly the strongest Championship team EVER

I think you are being very overconfident pal, we have got a good squad, yes- but the strongest championship squad ever- i doubt it.

very confident yes, not over confident
Ousetunes 09-08-2007, 15:19 In your confidence, you may have overlooked a couple of important factors that will have a huge bearing on our season (and yes, they apply to all clubs):
a/ bad decisions from inept referees; &
b/ a bad run of injured and unavailable players.
True, these bad decisions usually equal out over a season.
As I have mentioned elsewhere, we at United have a third factor; that of the fans' impatience. If Robson doesn't get us off to a winning start, how long before the fickle fools on the Kop start venting their spleen?
As we all know, it's a marathon, not a sprint. We might all wish for miracles but you've got to remember, this is Sheffield United and the Blades have never gone about things the easy way.
Still, UTB for Saturday.

we've never had a decent manager & assistant maanger and fantastic coaches before
but yes i know what's happend in the past.
BUT why dwell on the past, look and the players, staff, ground ambition and see what your meant to see.

do you take an optimism pill in the mornings?
Rocklegend 09-08-2007, 15:49 Same start as 2 seasons ago will do me.Only ever out of the top 2 once-I think.
bladesufc1 09-08-2007, 15:59 do you take an optimism pill in the mornings?
after many many years of watching UTD week in week out, ther's something in the air this season that's getting to my brain. i cant quite put my fingers on it.
BUT I LIKE WHAT I'M SEEING AT THE LANE
there actaully making SUFC it to a great club, on & off the field
and do yo know what, i can actually see european football at the lane within 10 years time!!!
discodown 09-08-2007, 16:54 Your optimism is to be commended.
I do feel that the club as a whole is definately moving in the right direction. We appear to be financially on a good footing, the squad looks good, we seem able to attract a better calibre of players than we ever have. All in all i'm optimistic.
However this is football and bad things can happen. But overall its good to be a blade these days!
donuticus 09-08-2007, 17:14 I'm going for Charlton to be champions, United in second automatic place and I think the Owls can make the playoffs but I don't think they'll go up.

We shall see. You'd better be right, because you've set yourself up for an almighty fall.
I'd be more than happy with top six this season... I think this is one of the strongest championships ever. Top quality players are playing at this level now, and a lot have clubs have got more money than ever to spend.

You can have all the best managers & staff it is the buggers on the pitch it depends on,we have a good squad but do we have a player who can keep the ball in midfield?

West Brom Charlton who else have quality Wolves? apart from the red & white wizards. There is a lot of dross in this league and is full off mediocre teams at the bottom end.

Haven't i just :hihi::hihi:
Ever the pessimist but I dont think it will be easy as some people think. In saying that I hope that I have just set myself up for everyone to laught at me at the end of the season :suspect:

discodown 10-08-2007, 18:06 If i were Beattie i'd be wanting to get a goal tomorrow, set myself up nicely
Agent Gypo 10-08-2007, 19:03 On paper we have a good squad. I've yet to see us play, and we haven't had a competitive game under Robson.
Talk of beating records, or even automatically qualifying for promotion, is very premature.
ReginaldD 10-08-2007, 22:01 Although I think the United squad is better than the one Sunderland had the Championship is now more competitive. + when it gets to January there are a lot of clubs who if not doing well will go out and spend some serious cash, this wasn't the case a couple of years back.
John1954 18-08-2007, 16:01 One point out of six.
Great start for possibly the strongest Championship team ever.
Floridablade 18-08-2007, 16:11 1 point from 2 games brilliant stuff, playing Leeds next year in league 1 at this rate
chuffinel 18-08-2007, 16:37 Seems like a poor effort when we had Stead,Webber and Beattie in the starting line-up. :gag:
Still, there's lots of season left at this point.
Thank goodness.
PLUMBHEAT 18-08-2007, 16:46 One point out of six.
Great start for possibly the strongest Championship team ever.
OBVIOUSLY NOT MATE, AS FOR BEATING SUNDERLANDS 88 POINTS:hihi::hihi::hihi::hihi::hihi::hihi:
blueandwhite 18-08-2007, 16:59 I wouldn't think so,1 point out of 6 is poor.Looks like my ten pound bet is safe this season.
discodown 18-08-2007, 17:54 It is a dreadful start. then again we didn't beat watford last season so why should this be any different?!
I said it wouldn't be a walk in the park, this is the problem, seems like most united fans thought all we'd have to do is turn up and teams would turn around and bend over for us. We better shape up pretty quick or we're going to get left behind.
Rocklegend 18-08-2007, 18:03 It is a dreadful start. then again we didn't beat watford last season so why should this be any different?!
.We did the double over Watford last season.
A.B.Yaffle 18-08-2007, 19:08 The only way we will get anything like the number of points Sunderland got is if we start a bring-back-warnock campaign. I said all along when fickle fans wanted to sack him that we should only sack him if we would get a better manager to replace him.
Most of the players are the ones we had last season, yet they are playing far far worse this season under Robson. Even last week when we beat Chesterfield, our performance was Sunday league stuff.

I've said it all a long,Robson is a poor manager with a poor track record. When they interviewed him for the wednesday job i was about to hand my season ticket in.
Floridablade 18-08-2007, 23:21 Ah! but he was cheap and that's all that matters. Fancy bringing in a manager when you can get a look alike for nowt. Good managers are never out of work long as Man.City will find out to their cost. United will struggle unless some good players are bought and a manager capable of leading them brought in. I was always in favour of giving Robson a chance but the board have to make a decision now otherwise the season will be over.
blueandwhite 19-08-2007, 06:11 Your not wrong mate.
bobbyblade 19-08-2007, 08:16 are we nearly there yet?
It's only 2 games, didn't Sunderland lose there first 5 games,it is too early to start with doom & gloom comments,it was a poor match, but it show 4-3-3 does not work with the players we have, not many managers use that formation anymore. But we need a strong midfield player & a center half, the goal was a deflection but struck well,I thought we should have got a point at least.
CorkerSWFC 19-08-2007, 10:44 I think a lot of you are missing the point that Watford came down last year aswell.
They will think exactley like you lot, they don't want to be in this division just as much as you.
I think they will be in the shake up come next year so don't get too downhearted, they won't all be as harder matches as that.
To be honest Corker both teams were poor,it's the relegation blues for some .It is only 2 ,matches ,I will worry if were not in the top 6 by xmas until then a few new players a new manager let's see what happens.
barnie41 19-08-2007, 13:03 Tosh - I agree with that, but by Xmas, if things aren't right, the boo boys may well have their way.
There's been too many changes for things to be running smoothly straight off, so we'll just have to hang on and see what happens.
John1954 02-09-2007, 14:38 I think they'll be over 90+ Points this season if all goes well for the blades.

Are you still giddy?
I think he's now realised that the giddy feeling was, in fact, nausea. :hihi:
blueandwhite 03-09-2007, 14:49 The only thing of Sunderlands that will geat beat this season is there bad start as i see us not only beating it but at this rate we are on the verge of a new record.
Sunderland lost 12 matches in total & still won the Championship title, they lost there 1st 5 matches,so I don't think there is any need to panic from both Sheffield clubs.
discodown 03-09-2007, 18:51 if we continue to play like we did on saturday we'll be lucky to make the playoffs
A.B.Yaffle 04-09-2007, 19:03 if we continue to play like we did on saturday we'll be lucky to make the playoffs
If we continue to play like that, we will be lucky to even finish in the top half of the table.
Most of those who played so awfully on Saturday are the same ones who got us promoted. We need someone to motivate them again.
They will if you count next seasons as well.
Gingerbarf 05-09-2007, 06:37 Leeds have got more chance of getting 88 points than we have (god it hurt me typing that lol)
I think we might get 8 points by Xmas, but still beats owls with there eurovision score of nil point.
bladesufc1 05-09-2007, 12:29 Are you still giddy?
lol not as giddy but there's still plenty of time to laugh & laugh
Kinda cruel I know but just had to revive this for one last laugh.........
discodown 14-02-2008, 21:22 I don't blame you, I was thinking about this thread myself the other day

how blind i was :hihi::hihi::hihi:
how blind i was :hihi::hihi::hihi:
You're not alone.
All supporters, aside from glory hunters, are blinded by pre-season expectations.
I didn't expect us to be hovering in and around the playoffs, saying that though I certainly didn't expect SWFC to be in this position after 30 games :(
Both Sheffield clubs have failed to meet expectations this season; it's probably worse for United, because they expected to go straight back up (with some justification), or at the very least to be in the playoffs. Wednesday didn't expect to go up, but they shouldn't have been threatening to go down either. If we finish in our current positions, I'd say United have had the worse season; obviously if Weds. sink a position and go down, that will no longer be true.
bladebloke 15-02-2008, 20:46 how many of us have backed 4,5,6 certs at five to three but come 5 bells yer fixed odds sheet screwed up on the pub floor.

As far as Robson goes I think most punters recognised a one eyed blinkered runner who never stayed the course.
Robbie Loving 16-02-2008, 06:13 The only time I have won a bet on United this season was Hendrie to score last combo with a half time losing/full time winning. Total odds of 33/1, fantastic.
