View Full Version : Ball Inn (Mansfield Road) Raided?
vimtolover 09-08-2007, 12:46 Heard a rumour that the Ball Inn was raided a couple of weeks back?
By 3 blokes in balaclavas and a shot gun.
Heard they took over a grand?
Anyone know if this is true? Or just a case of chinese whispers?
No that's definately not true. There's been no trouble since it has had new management.
Think you could be mistaken by the robbery at the Fairways pub, that happened the other morning.
At 2 30 am on Thursday morning my Son heard an almighty crash on his back door.
By the time he had jumped out of bed and flew downstairs with his baseball bat , he heard a van start up and looked through the front window to see his new work's van disappearing round the corner.
His door had been crashed in and the keys to his van were gone from his kitchen table by the side of the door, all in the time that it took him to run downstairs. Seems they did not care how much noise they made, just how quickly they could steal the van.
Just wondered if this was the same night that Fairways was robbed.

the fairways was robbed by two men on motorbikes according to the letter distributed by the police to the houses nearby...
Ok
Just wondered, as the van was obvously taken for a purpose, they did not hang around to take anything else.

Thieves must just love people like your son who leave their vehicle keys on the table beside the door in full & obvious view. :loopy: Perhaps it would be better to simply avoid all the damage and carnage to ones property and hang the keys on a hook outside the house with a large notice advertising their presence. Better still, leave them in the vehicle with all the doors wide open.
Who would expect a solid wooden door to be ramraided when occupants were in the house.
The van has been found still in the same condition it was in when taken.

I think thats a little harsh, i know we need to be vigilant but getting your door smashed in and getting your van nicked isn't something your really going to expect in the middle of the night.
I suppose people don't have feelings for people until it happens to them then they want all the support they can get.
Have a heart :(

Yes we do need to be vigilant. Keep the keys out of sight when you are downstairs and when you go to bed take them upstairs with you and hide them.
I used to have a Pit Bull Terrier who was a very friendly little soul to those who he knew, but I wouldn't have fancied the chances for anyone who might have their leg through the window in the middle of the night. Despite his presence, I still kept the doors locked and took the car, and house, keys with me when I went to the toilet if I was in the house on my own. That might be classed as overkill by some people but it meant that I still had possession of a very desirable and extremely high performance car 10 years after I bought it.
I would say that taking the house and car keys to the toilet with you borders on being neurotic.
You may have kept your car, but have you kept your sanity, was the high performance car worth all that anxiety.

I would have to agree with you there hazel, Theres being careful and sensible, then theres being obsessive and over reacting.
Sorry to hear what happened with your son.
To think that someones been in your house is a horrible feeling.
Thanks for the sympathy Lyndix and CorkerSWFC
Well luckily they went no further than the kitchen and could only have been there for the time it took to pick up the keys so it's not as bad as strangers going through your belongings. Still a shock though.

Low Edges, where the local scumbags will nick your gold fillings if you smile just a little too long. :suspect::suspect:

Definitely not in the least bit neurotic, totally sane, recently sold the car and yes, it was worth all the anxiety.
