View Full Version : FIESTA MK I Collection
goldenfleece 08-08-2007, 12:18 Not all of them but my 2 prize ones, XLL397X, a 1.3 GL in gold, and BNB271Y, 1.3 Ghia also in gold. The latter just come back from a partial paint shop job (back wings only, both replaced) and various other minor jobs now done, new choke, etc....both far from PERFECTION as still got some jobs to do, replacement door mirror, minor rust spots and details........oh well summer is here now so no excuses....leopard skin interior to the GL came from the USA, very cheesey but gets a lot of attention! Both have original radios (one an early radio stereo cassette version), one with original analogue clock and both with veneer effect "soft" dashboards. Ghia has the extras (compared to the GL) of rev counter, sunroof, extra door internal mouldings and fake leather. Gl is on original auto choke, Ghia electric choke was irreparable so a Ford manual conversion kit now fitted and working. Ghia has also the rather quaint and old skool Ford opening quarterlight front windows.....lovely....
Just finsihed repairing the alternator on the Ghia which was overcharging the battery at a steady 18 volts!! Lucky it did not go BANG actually before I discovered the faulty regulator.

Phylis is slowly rotting away now. We are going to rehouse the Sierra for the winter and restore her over the winter in the garage at home.
You are lucky to have a radio goldenfleece. Phylis dont have one being an L model.
keeholden 09-08-2007, 19:04 iv got a casette/radio, but it doesnt work
You two dont know your born. I have had many monotonous hours on the motorway of listening to Phylis drown away. The other half refuses to drive her on long journeys leaves it up to me whilst he drives the sierra with music, comfy seats, sun roof and windows that open.

What needs doing and where is the rot? Front wings? Arches? Say its NOT the floor, that becomes a real chore.....I remember starting restoration on my first MK I, a 1977 S reg L, and removing the carpet revealed.....THE GROUND.......the entire floor had rotted out over 6 months of a bad winter.....it was a basket case at that point as all the chassis had also rotted to nothing.....
Front wings inner and outer, rear wheel arches, door bottoms, front cross member, sills, floor edges. Also need a new bonnet as i stuffed it into a post and a new chrome front bumper from the same accident. Liam is a panel beater though so it wont be a problem to him or it shouldnt.

If you need a new bonnet I have one spare, undented, but needs completely stripping and repainting......

Skatiechik 12-09-2007, 10:52 How much did the bodywork/partial paint shop cost if you don't mind me asking?

think it was about 700.....most of that was welding in new rear panels.......as usual for an old Ford, once you start looking for rot you find more than you ever expect lurking under wings and frames....
