is the A61 still closed heading North thro grenoside? Going to huddersfield tomorrow and I would normally go out on the A61 and turn left a few miles past Grenoside, whatever the road is that leads to Huddersfield via Thurgoland.........

Never been closed. I have used it every day since damage occurred. There is one lane open, controlled by traffic lights. Max I have waited even at busy times is 5 mins.

One lane is still closed but there has been some work done over the last few days, so maybe it will fully open soon.

yeah its still one lane, got stuck for about 15 minutes coming back into Sheffield at the lights, they really make that junction from Huddersfield tricky to get out of though.....all tailed back cars never let you pull out into the Q.......

It is ok going to Hudd. Coming back, you are best to go up the back of Grenoside. After coming out of Wortley, past the tight corner with the pub, you enter the 40mph zone. Take the second right exit on the main road - sign posted Stocksbridge, come of in the slip and take the first left up the country road to Grenoside.
Alternatively, take the first right onto the Stocksbridge By Pass and head up to the Tankersley roundabout.
Both routes prevent a stressful exit at the Jet garage.

I understand the intention was to do all the repairs in the school summer holidays whilst roads are less busy, but the extent of the damage now discovered by the necessary survey work after the floods etc means that there is much more work to do than initially thought. I don't know what the expected time scale is but I don't think the road will be fully open just yet.:(:(

As a local to that area, we had a council mail shot advising that the A61 would be CLOSED at that point for 3-4 weeks, late August/early September. I took that to mean both ways. As yet, not had confirmation and used that road to get to work this evening.......
