as some of you will know i have got a pug, he's now 1 year old, and have also got an older dog. My pug has always wanted to be with me but now my other dog follows me everywhere aswell now. My pug is worse, i can't even go to the toilet without him been behind me. As i am writing this now they are both laid round my feet, and it's starting to do my head in!!!! Any suggestions on how to keep them away from me now and again without putting them in a different room?!
i have no idea.
all my dogs follow my wife around as though they are attached, they even sit on her lap whilst using the facilities.
when i work from home during the day, they lay on their sofa and don'y move untili feed them or take them for walk.

Well really its up to you to show them what you require of them, provide them with a bed or place of their own where you want them to be, and just pop them in/on the bed saying something like go to bed...or whatever you want to say, they will keep getting off and trying to get on your knee etc but you must be really consistant with, this eventualy they will undertstand whats required when you say the words, maybe you could give them a toy/pigs ear or some other treat that they are only allowed while on the bed.
Alternatively you could consider crate training them, which isn't so bad as it sounds, and remember dogs do need to know their place and what is wanted of them to feel secure and happy.

My two sit behind me hoping for something out of the fridge when I go in for the milk :hihi:
The Doberman is also known as the Velcro-Hound- the breed is renowned for hating to be apart from their owners and our daft dobermutt will bang the bathroom door down to get to me or othe other half- we get no privacy. If it's not Ailsa, it's Alfie the barmy bengal cat dying to know what I'm doing -consider it an honour to be so loved!
Oh and our 2 partners in crime (dobe n bengal) also hang around the fridge waiting for it to get opened so they can examine the contents and hopefully get their 10 per cent

Mine are the same - little shadows
What do you do when your dogs demand attention?
The chances are you reinforce it somehow so the trick is to not reinforce it.
When you leave and enter the house, ignore the dog for 5 minutes. Then call the dogs (only call them for a fuss when they're not demanding it) so that they come for fuss on your terms. When your dogs come for attention, turn away and don't reinforce it, then when the dogs back off, call them and fuss them. It's hard to do at first, but if you don't want the dog there all the time, you've got to be consistent, the dogs don't particularly care (although companion dogs are slightly different).
Dogs don't really get a lot of out of being patted on the head either (despite people always having done it) so when you have been fussing your dog, pat him on the head and say 'all done' or 'finished' or something similar to signal the end of the fuss. Then ignore the dog.
You must also be sure to provide them with plenty of fun things to do when you don't want them following you about, a stuffed kong, treat dispenser balls etc.
However, it's a character trait of the pug - they are companion dogs, it's what they were bred to do. If you choose to have a dog that was bred to accompany his owner more or less 24/7 you sign up for a shadow!
