Oh Yes Yes Yes, loads and loads of em    but the one that sticks clearest in my mind is that a crowd of around 10 went from our local, and all went as buddies, and remained buddies after the match.
Even though we were mixed Wednesday & United we all got on and enjoyed it and returned to the pub together to gloat, or suffer according to which side you supported, plenty of arguments but no bitterness or wanting to go outside, and roll around the car park just because you had lost.

Is it really that long ago that the Owls were doing well? How things have changed!

I went to the match, it was trouble free and a crowd of 49 thousand plus, a record never to be beaten for the old 3rd division.
I was fortunate to be a Wednesday supporter then, of course united ites keep saying "stop living in the past" :hihi:

There'll be a special boxing day massacre edition match programme on sale at the Walsall match on boxing day. It'll have a copy of the original programme from 25 years ago inside.

My Dad suprised me with tickets for that game. We always used to stand in the Leppings Lane corner, but these tickets were bang in the middle of the Cant.

Was it only 49,000 crowd? I was only 10, but I remember it being packed to the rafters. Funny what your brain does to memories.

Great day

I think it says a lot about the state of both our teams that we all still harp on about FORMER glories and what MIGHT have been.

As a Blade, I'd love to see both united and wednesday return to the premiership. That would be fantastic for the fans, having local derbies and the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea coming to town.

Fortunately, I wasn't a Bladesfan at this point; that was to come four years later! But my older brother was and he'll have been there. I recall a lot of playground banter but frankly, couldn't have cared less!

Although it may sound like sour grapes, honest to God it isn't, but I reckon a club of Wednesday's stature (past or present) ought to be looking forward to getting back up to where they once were rather than looking back on this particular fixture through the old rose tinteds.

Moreover, in a sense, one might reckon last week's demolition job at Doncaster might be of greater importance than a match played a quarter of a century ago. That result could be the one that totally transforms your season and decides whether you'll be playing in the Championship (doesn't that sound silly?) or Division 1 next August.

Like previous correspondents, I'd also like to wish both Unitedite and Wednesdayites a Merry Christmas. If/when we/you lose, don't let it spoil yer Chrstmas!!

Although I wasn't at the game, being only 6 months old at the time, the game had massive significance for wednesday at the time.

When United came to Hillsborough that day they were top of the league and playing well, wednesday were inconsistant and hovering around mid table.

THe crowd a div 3 record (probably for all time) of over 49,000 crammed into hillsborought o witness the now legendary game.

After the game wednesday went from strength to strength and eventually achieved promotion that season and sparked their climb back to the top flight while united eventually got relegated to the 4th division.

Hopefull the demolition of doncaster will have the same affect.

I wasn't there as I was unborn but I think the date will stick in my mind forever and there will never be a day like it.
That is until we are Champions League contenders...so never.

Fantastic blast from the past.

I was at the game. As a neutral I went with two other Blades and the tickets we had were for the kop.

There was an awful lot of jumping about during the second half.

Didn't remember that there were no buses (boxing day) and I've no recollection how we got from Woodseats to Hillsborough and back again.

I also went and don't remember how we got to the ground with no buses from Heeley.

I got a ticket from my mate who was a Weds fan, we were on the kop, god knows what I would have done if united did score anyway.

Do you remember the resturn match at Bramall Lane at Eastertime?

At St Mary's Church next to the ground somebody had draped a banner which read 'Jack Charlton is a pig'

I was on the kop, the place was absolutely jam-packed.

At one stage some trouble kicked off on the left hand side (if you were looking at the pitch) when some Wednesday fans started to chant. No idea if it was just handbags or serious trouble.

Anyway, when John McPhail put United ahead at the far end the cheering was just so loud I'm sure the kop roof lifted a foot or two. Must have been all that pent-up frustration since Boxing Day.

Of course, then Terry Curran went and spoiled it all for United with that wonder goal.

I think there were more than 45,000 at that game, correct me if I'm wrong.

When they arrived back I was cooking tea !
The 12 yr old marched straight passed and said " Don't say a word "

I couldn't stop laughing.
