It happened this weekend only just,

I put my Monkey socks (http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i217/turra21/monkeys002.jpg) in for competition, and a jar of lemon curd (I won't bore you with a picture). With everything else that has been going on in my life these were the only things I got round to finishing!

I was placed 3rd with the socks and 4th with the curd. I wasn't impressed as the winning socks were boring bog standard 4ply in a cowpat colour and just stocking stitch. Hadn't been blocked and didn't look anywhere near as nice as mine the same for the second pair but they were blue. However, they must have bee ntechnically better made than mine :)

We were lucky the show went ahead at all, the cattle weren't allowed to come for the Monday because of the foot and mouth but it rained from 11 o'clock in the morning on Sunday until lunchtime on the Monday and the showground was under 2 feet of water by 6 am on Monday so the organisers just cancelled the day all together. The first time in 143 years excepting war and 2001 foot and mouth that the show hasn't gone on!

How can plain cowpat colour socks have been deemed better than those????? Were the judges drinking? They are a work of art.

Sometimes I think the WRI judges just get stuck in the past and don't realise that things change. The category was listed as "A pair of knitted socks - 4 ply" nothing about long, short, single colour or anything. Old f***s. Bet they'd sampled the homemade wine first!!

I thought I'd seen them there, but they don't look nearly as good on the knitty site as yours do!
