View Full Version : Bank Robbers in ireland . poppins 22-12-2004, 17:58 Surprised no one mentioned the bank robbery in Ireland this week, 39 million taken fron Northern Bank, sparklesista 22-12-2004, 18:01 39 Mill! They did a good job then! :D JoeP 22-12-2004, 18:15 Actually, steaing the money is one thing.... Getting it spendable is another. The big problem they'll have is laundering the money in to the economy - the bank they robbed prints it's own money and so the notes will stick out a mile. The usual trick with laundering proceeds is to slowly funnel the funds through things like house purchaes, painting,s drugs, etc. but so many of these avenues are now blocked off. They could take the money abroad and do it through dodgier parts of the banking system, but there are risks and it will also cost them money.... So beware of people offering NI notes this Christmas! Joe Don_Kiddick 22-12-2004, 18:22 They think they have caught the getaway van driver :suspect: A guy turned up in A/E with severe burns to his lips & tongue. :gag: It seems he tried to blow up van after dumping it :hihi:  (burnt his lips on the hot exhaust..... Gunner 22-12-2004, 20:44 Northern Irish Bank Notes are very different from ours. The robbers have dropped a clanger. It will be impossible to change any large sum of money. Impossible to even get it out of Ireland. Not much thought went into this, Certainly proves that these guys were clever though at robbing. They may just as well have robbed a local Supermarket. Anyone that knows about N.Ireland will agree. These guys are stuck with a large amount of waste paper. No Irish Jokes yet I see. Gunner 22-12-2004, 20:50 Well just seen the joke well done. Proves that the one's that did it came from Belfast. Paisley may get a big collection in church on Sunday say about 30 mill moog 23-12-2004, 11:35 I should think that any group of people intelligent enough to rob 39 million pounds have allready got their laundering avenues sorted.. steevie/d 23-12-2004, 11:58 its all in irish pounds so it will be harder to get rid of some eastern block country may be willing to lend them a hand to get shut but at a big cost to those who stole it 27m will take some getting shut of well planned operation to steal it ive herd the robbers loaded in bin bags and escaped in the bin lorry and some posed as police officers some of the bin bags full of dosh was left laying in the street would you have handed it in if you found a bag full of cash (new poll subject possibly) all the best steve ... Gunner 23-12-2004, 16:11 All the numbers are known. It will be impossible to use this money. It is just a load of waste paper by now. Anyone knowing about N Irish money will not even touch it. Lickszz 24-12-2004, 16:49 Perhaps the money will be used to rearm after the charade of disarmament. :o Gunner 24-12-2004, 17:45 I wondered when someone would be silly enough to incorporate the IRA. These bank robbers do not have the intelligence they were born with. The fact that they stole money that was in effect worthless outside of Ireland proves as much. Maybe they can donate it to Paisley's pension fund. He can burn it on the fire in the winter months to keep him warm. owdlad 24-12-2004, 18:10 Originally posted by Rodgers I wondered when someone would be silly enough to incorporate the IRA. There are those who would pay to have him ON the fire that burns it ;) Gunner 24-12-2004, 19:17 quite right owdlad. He is the biggest obstacle to peace in Northern Ireland, He calls himself a man of God. He should be extinguished. The money can be spent in the UK not just Northern Ireland, obviously there is more risk with Irish notes in the UK. There are several other avenues open to launder money, like setting up a company and laundering through that. Or take it overseas, however smuggling it out of the country wouldn't be easy. Gunner 25-12-2004, 04:13 You certainly do not know very much about Ireland or the IRA. There have been no bigger robberies than this. The IRA have never been known to rob banks. They have far more funds than anyone could imagine. Listen to the news and you may learn something about Northern Irish currency. Lickszz 25-12-2004, 10:39 I have worked in Northern Ireland and have been reading 2 Irish newspapers daily for years. May I suggest you carry out a little research into the IRA and previous history of high security raids and other links with larger raids than this. You might also want to check out ways and means of laundering money. A good place to start would be to check back issues of the Times from the early nineties and I should imagine that there are hundreds of links on the net relating to this. Gunner 25-12-2004, 14:16 Try not to read too many papers. I am a member of Sinn Fein and receive all relevant info. Lickszz 26-12-2004, 15:53 You shouldn't believe too much of what spews out of the mouths of people like Adams, Snodaigh, Doherty and Crowe either. Didn't they tell you that that Northern Ireland notes could be spent in the UK? ;) Gunner 26-12-2004, 16:05 Would you accept a N Irish Bank Note. When I go to Ireland, I find it very difficult to spend any of the notes here in the U.K. Just the same as Scottish Notes. But the Irish are more difficult to spend. But, After the robbery How many people do you think will accept them now. I do not know anyone. I took £60. to the Bank the other day. Even then they were examined. As for believing what comes out of mouths. I am at the stage where I do not believe any politician. One person I never thought would lie, All the years that I have known the man. that is Blunkett. However, I do believe that peace will prevail in N.Ireland. But people must look forward with optimism not look back in anger. There have been atrocities on all sides in this conflict. I my friend am very optimistic Lickszz 26-12-2004, 16:17 I wish I could share your optimism but unfortunately I don't see total peace existing during my lifetime. Gunner 26-12-2004, 16:40 I myself am 58 yrs old. But, I could see peace on the horizon if there was a change of faces. Maybe we do need to get rid of a few politicians, Maybe we need to see this under a new light. I would like to see negotiations and talks using young blood. Not those that have axes to grind. All those involved are after scoring points against each other. Maybe history should take a back seat. Maybe the youngsters should be given a chance to bring final peace to Ireland. I do admit that there are many other problems, Many other parties that do not want peace at any cost. There are those that use membership to paramilitaries on both sides as an excuse to commit atrcious crimes. These people would join any party to do this. They have no loyalties to anyone but themselves |
