View Full Version : Q: Who is Minty? A: A vandal
I have no problem with anyone spraying their name on a skate bowl or even on a brick wall but when some ****** sprays over my 2 year old daughter's name I get pretty ****** off. We waited long enough (over a year!) for the plaque to go up in Meersbrook Park's playground recognising the people (mostly children) who sponsored the new equipment, but this little git ruined it for everyone within a couple of weeks.
See a picture here (http://mysite.orange.co.uk/bug23/minty.jpg)
The day i went down to the park (we have moved so dont go to Meersbrook Park very often) and saw the new skate bowl under construction i thought thats great something for the "cool dudes" just like the one at Millhouses Park where my 2 year old daughter likes to watch and even join in! However, today we went down and saw the vandalism by "Minty" over the much waited plaque that was erected only recently to name the children who had sponsored the soft tarmac. If anyone reading this knows of a Minty, tell him he aint cool he is a "Dim Wit". He also spray painted the slide and the skate bowl. The skate bowl is fine for graffiti art but the kiddies playground is not his space, this person Minty is just a loser. The vandalism is over my daughters name and many other childrens. Im sure they will be upset and sad. It is not cool to be selfish and egotistic, so Minty your just "sad" and "dim".
Swan_Vesta 05-08-2007, 21:20 In Hillsborough we appear to have a spate of these little scrotes spraying their rubbish over every available surface. If I catch one of the sods I'll haul him before the nearest copper - The little plebs

Wrong response IMHO. Much better to empty whatever remains in the spray can into the scrotes eyes and then disappear.:nod::clap: That would certainly be my response anyway.
Bomberman 06-08-2007, 01:54 Awesome, nothing like permanent blinding for petty vandalism. Best way in my opinion. The only thing better would be to actually take the wall apart and then use the individual bricks to smash their fingers and faces.
No really - that's what I'd have done :loopy: Also, how do you empty a marker into someones eyes?
Back in the real world, that was a poor thing to do on this Mintys part. Some people are just idiots.
to the OP - as I said above, that's clearly a marker, not spray.

No discipline at home is the likley cause.
If the courts throw the book at the parents then maybe theyll make the little scroats tow the line.

make the parents either clean it up or pay to get it cleaned while the 'artist' sits and watches with a sign around neck with his 'tag' wrote on it on public display.
Boy'o Boy i'd love to dish out this for real :hihi:
katy1981 06-08-2007, 07:54 the kids wont care if the parents are punished for what they have done, they just think ha! i cant do what i want and get away with it as its my mam and dad that will cop it. and if you think the thought of being put into care or prison will change their minds think again kids think its cool and that its a holiday camp where they will get lots of money and the things they want will just come to them!
my niece is a little sod and she really does not care what happens to her mother and her mother has been very strict with her both now and in the past but it clearly hasn't helped her behaviour at all
Maybe the custom, practised in a few countries, of chopping off hands would occasionally have its merits.
You should report this to the police.

How interesting... I have not been strict with my son and he is really good and caring. If he has done anything wrong we have always discussed it and I try to show the way forward. (I'm a Buddhist I don't do shouting and anger). Don't know how I would have coped if he had been a little sod though because on the whole he was well behaved.
I don't think grafitti is bad but most real grafitti artists would not graf over signs or slides in the kids playground.
I know a couple of Grafitti artists in London and they prefer a nice wall and when they have finished it is something worth looking at. They would never graff over signs or kids play equipment.
This Minty is some kid who thinks he is being big graffing the place up. When in fact he is a thoughtless little w*****.

mrbigshoe 06-08-2007, 11:52 What does everyone feel about the former graffiti 'artist' Fista now exhibiting his work in Archipelago gallery in Banner Cross?
Please try and refrain from the "chop off his hands" "torture is too good for them" type of response we expect from religious zealots.
You might feel angry that he is in some way being rewarded for being a vandal, or perhaps you might feel that it is a good thing that he is now expressing himself on canvas rather than a wall.
(Apologies if this subject has come up before)
we have graffiti called mucky ann written all over firth park

Provincial art gallery cashing in on the Banksy phenomenon with infinitely less talented 'artist'? ;)
Here is Fista's art:

Reminds me of those faux Hindu designs you'd get on T-shirts from Afflecks Palace back in the days of Madchester...
Wonder how much of the £85 per image goes back into the coffers of the various councils who had to pay to clean up his 'human tom cat territorial pishings'? :suspect:

The thing is, you all go on about you'll smash a graffiti artists face in when really you would'nt even bother. You'll be quite suprised how calm and collective we are, this minty is what we would call a `toy`, this means hes an inexperianced writers and has'nt quite caught the unwritten laws of graffiti. Now refering to break somes bones and blind someone for writing on a service is'nt the best thing to say, a graffiti artist could make your life hell by repeatdly hitting your property, trust me.
The thing about graffiti you all seem to forget is that its leaving a mark, humens have left there mark for decades, cavemen, romans, egyptians and you could even say business leave there marks, tesco,Mc donalds ETC.....Now as soon as a graffiti artists works worth something (illegal or not) it becomes ok, and the public love his work. Take Banksy for instance, hes caused loads of illegal damage costing britain a fare whack of money, now hes untouchable. Make your minds up, half of you are stuck in a mindless trap about public order and laws, i bet you dont even feel free anymore. Image standing at a bus stop and never being board because the surroundings are covered with colour, pictures and characters. Now thats not what everyone wants, but graffiti is for yourself, and othier writers, everyone else is excluded, this is why its looked upon as graffiti writers being selfish. If you looked into graffiti and learnt about it you may change your views, kids will be kids, but its not fair to label a graffiti artist as scum ETC.
lynslou77 07-08-2007, 09:31 tazer the **** i say, hard to graffiti when you can't walk anymore.
Tony, you know very well that the artwork is totally a form of street art, so why not be copy writed, theres so many biters out there stealing designs and making cash, you can't teach fista's 80's style, a true urban artists. Worth every penny of individuality.
tazer the **** i say, hard to graffiti when you can't walk anymore.
WRONG!

This is TAKE5, a wheelchair disabled new york writer who used to clamber up onto train lines and paint, brilliant artists.

Hear hear. Railtrack have been criticised for buffing a Banksy which if they had cut the section of wall out and sold it would have fetched about £40 to £60 thousand pounds. They have now instructed their graffiti cleansing squad to be more careful. :hihi:

Unbelivable, you cant let one graffiti artists off with his CRIMES hes commited and arrest and charge the rest of them who i think have alot more skills with a spraycan then Banksy scissor skills chopping out stencils, you have to make your mind up.
When I was a kid, my sister got caught writing on a bus shelter, and as punishment she was made to clean the whole shelter on Saturday, she never did it again.
The difference between Banksy and Minty is immense. Banksy has skill, he doesn't do rubbish in this Noo Yawk ghetto style, he works with the vernacular, and what he does either says something important or amusing. He has brains and wit.
Minty on the other hand is just cocking his scrawny, pale and hairy teenaged leg and urinating on things. It's no better than when we used to carve our nicknames out with bunsen burners on the chemistry lab benches. I never pretended that was art, I always knew I was being a little barsteward.
Fista is rubbish - his style is derivative, cheap and out of date. The difference between Banksy and Fista is like the difference between a Francis Bacon painting and something in watercolours sent into a village art show.

THAT JUST SHOWS YOU HOW MUCH YOU KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BANKSY QUIT GRAFFITI!!!, because his can control was crap, he admits this in many of his books, so he decided to do stencils therefore not needing can control, just scissor skills and planning, so get your facts right, im not sticking up for this crappy tagger minty. Im just proving how much the public actually know about the back ground of graffiti, Especialy sheffield graffiti seen as the scene grew BEFORE London. FISTA is more of an artists then Banksy will ever be, your brain washed from the News and Goverment. Open up your mind.
lynslou77 07-08-2007, 15:28 well tazer them in the bloody head then i don't know!
if we cut off their hands they would use their bloody feet we can't win!
Lyns, thats a terrible thing to say. Quit it you narrow minded fool.
lynslou77 07-08-2007, 15:58 no shes quite bright im her hubby and yes i am a narrow minded fool.
we'll see how wide minded you are when they are spraying up your joint

Nah, I just like art. And I don't like that Noo Yawk style of tagging as it doesn't work with our urban landscapes. If Banksy uses stencils - which he doesn't all the time as that piece in Bristol of the man escaping from his bird's window was sure as hell not a stencil! - then stencils are good.
Show me some examples of vernacular graffiti art that are a bit different and I'll let you know what I reckon. ;)
BTW my mate's bloke works with graffiti on canvas and in digital art and his stuff is cracking - wish i could find the link for you now :(

that IS a stencil, he always users stencils, he doesnt understand how to use caps, or paint......
If it's a stencil then he's even cleverer than I thought because that must have taken a lot more effort to make than just drawing the scene itself!
Mathom, nope, stencils are alot easier, you have no drips, you dont have to work from mind or paper, your layers are all there ready for you, trust me mate, ive done stencils and graffiti freehand (which i do 10 times more then stencils) heres some of my work.....
my stencils (top of devonshire green) someone took a picture from Flicker...

.......
....and this is my graffiti freehand work which i prefer to do....

I'm seriously freaked that that one is a stencil (if anyone doesn't know the one I'm on about it's here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Banksy.in.bristols.park.street.arp.jpg
To me, that would seem more difficult than freehand! See what you mean about drips though.
I like your stencil work anyway - did they leave it there? :) That's the essential difference between the junk kids scrawl on stuff and actually adding some proper art to otherwise grim and drab surroundings.

Really love that stencil piece 4ny1ne! That's beautiful. Not so keen on the freehand, but I can tell that you're good at what you do.

The freehand one, my peice is the one on the right, it says ANY, if you flip it upside down it says exactly the same.....
....the stencil one is still there, its at the end of devonshire street and im afraid to say it is illegal but since we was talking about banksy i thought i'd be a little cheeky =0), i was trying to capture my youth, being silly and creating a happy atmosphere of innercence (im terrible at spelling, i know) .....
....mathom, Look how straight the lines are and square the window is, thats a stencil mate. Banky is by far one of the most in-depth and talented stencil artist with good original ideas, since now Banky is an organisation with 8 stencil artists its lost its orginalty and now is just there to make money, the reason the stencil looks so impressive and complexed still goes down to the boards he users, first, he users the board with the orginal outline, then by freen hand fills in the colour, then 5 othier stencils, lined up and layered are placed over the top one by one to make the stencil as neat as possible (with the outline colour, in this case black).....so yeah, i do like his stuff, i just dont like the fact the public think its one man who is the best `graffiti artists` when really he is now an organisation using clever idea's involving the media.....thats nothing to do with true graffiti....
lynslou77 08-08-2007, 08:34 I actually live on the same area.....

sorry was there a point to this post?
if there was what was it?
Me mathom and halibut are having a sensible discussion, it seems like your just trying to cause a `fight`. Grow up lyns and work it out yourself.
4ny1ne, i'm really interested in how you did that stencil piece - did you work from a photograph?
Stencils are farely easy to do, them stencils are actually of me and my mates at sports day when i was 6, we looked so happy, so energetic, so i blew the photos up and printed them in black and white sheets, then i took all the main details off, like logo's belts patterns ETC and cut around the outside to make a base for the cardboard sheets, stuck them on the sheets and stanly knifed it out, pretty easy but it stands for a very important part of my life, having fun and making friends....
...heres a step by step to give you abit more of an idea what i was on about, not a graffiti stencil but it gives you the same idea.......

I'm impressed by that, I thought all this art was done free hand - yet to me that looks even more difficult in a way, cutting out the stencil and knowing which bits to cut, which to emphasise. I suppose you could get an idea of how your stencil would work by messing with the photocopier settings, making them have higher contrast and stuff?
I like that look - and when you get a unique look, a great subject and the right spot then it's a completely different matter to the usual stuff everyone gets annoyed at! That's when it becomes art to me!

Yeah your right, totally. But to me, the word graffiti art has nothing to do with the b-boy culture of it all, stencils a form of graffiti that im not amazed at. Check out some of insa work......
