Yesterday I clicked on a link to a joke from one of the forum regulars, and immedately I had loads of crap filling the screen of my pc, to stop this I had to unplug the system, because it wouldn't let me shut down in the normal way.

I have run spybot, and run the virus scanner, I also have popups blocked by goggle, and even as I type this the annoying bloody things have popped up 15 times.

How do I rid my system of these damned things?

You could try the free element on www.lavasoft.nu it took a lot of stuff off my pc but I don't know if it kills pop ups

It's weird tha tGoogle tool bar doesn't work - I usually find it really reliable. You have my sympathy owdlad.

From memory, there is one in Norton and you can get a free trail, but TBH I have removed Norton as it bungs up the whole system.

Did you select yes to that box that popped up and asked if you wanted to install something? I can't find the post so can't see what the installer was trying to install but you probably need to delete it! Run msconfig and deselect anything that looks a bit dodgy, I guess you have ran ad-aware and stuff like that. Try downloading Hijack, that can be good at getting rid of stuff that has embedded itself in internet explorer.

Hi Neeeeeeek
The only box to click on was more information ( I know I should have known better) and it was from Dirk Diggler, so I thought it to be relatively safe. venger got it as well, so it wasn't just me.

I think it was an installer link as I saw it aswell but clicked no. I don't think Google toolbar will block it as it's not a popup in the tradional sense, try the stuff I mentioned before, bet it finds something. Good luck.

Google toolbar is reliable for me.

Since I have installed it, it has stopped 803 pop ups

Here is another alternative (http://www.panicware.com/product_psfree.html) .

Can be turned off easily also.

Yep, can't beat Firefox.

I had IE6 with Google Toolbar and that was the best I had for a while. I did get a few coming in though.

Since I installed Firefox I haven't had one pop-up. 100% Thumbs up here.

Firefox is good actually, I use it, never thought of mentioning it.

Pleased you have solved the problem either way.

Useful forum isn`t it.

Yep, it's useful alright, the trouble is that it's also adictive :suspect: I have started using Firefox, and so far it looks good. Certainly not as much crap on the screen :)
