I was given a sax and I now have the chance to learn how the play it but it appears it needs some attention. My tutor is replacing the mouthpiece and reed but there's rust inside it seems.
So, what generally needs doing with saxophones? How much should it costs? Is there anywhere I can get it done in Sheffield?
Is there anywhere who will do it really cheap? Not got a great deal of money and I don't want to make massive investments until I know if I'm going to be ok with it.

I was just looking at Sax prices and thinking of just getting one and seeing if I like it.
Apparently the cheapest ones are around £300-400? I think that's why they said in the music shop just above the Moor.

I had a look at that cramped music shop a bit further up towards town and they had some second hand ones for around £150. Though I'd probably not want to buy there my self, they don't seem like they'd have good customer service if all is not well with the sax.

There's a chap in Beauchief that does woodwind repairs, can't remember his name but I'm sure he's in the yellow pages! He repaired mine when a bit came loose. As far as I know that's the only place in Sheffield.

I think his name is Ian Hamilton. If so, he is an exceptionally good oboe player and an excellent repairer of instruments.
