Other than Next and Primark I'm not sure what other shops are going in there. It's due to open soon though isn't it after being put back after the floods

Obviously M'hall shoppers didn't agree! :loopy: It was one of the few things I liked about the place.

I loved Pret A Manger. Their BLT is the best pre-packed shop-bought sarnie I think I've ever eaten.

I've seen the artists impressions of the new mall but it only says Next and Primark. A Wilkinsons and the place would be perfect :hihi:

So what happens to all the flood damaged products?
Are they just thrown away or can we expect some kind of mega sale?
Certain things can surely be saved like clothes put in a washing machine.

Someone on the floods board said damaged stock had to be returned ot head offices as part of their insurance claims I think.

I see.
I thought there would've been some sort of H & S issue?

bensonhedges
04-08-2007, 22:27
There is a health and safety issue - everything was covered in raw sewage. Washed or not I wouldn't wear it Debz. Would you?

dynamicdebz

Depends!
How much it cost originally & how much now.

NO you are dead wrong! - the best sandwich place in the world is the Kings Head in Galway Eire :hihi:

Ok then best sandwich I have eaten, but when next in Galway I will take up the challenge....

I think the best thing that can happen to Murder Hell is that they move all the shops to the city centre and the car parks too.

There isn't enough variety of shops. Its too expensive for independents to get a look in.

wopp
04-08-2007, 23:18
I agree Bojolo. Any independents get shoved down The Lanes in a tiny little kiosk or on a crappy little stand in the mall, and get charged a fortune for the privelage of working 12 hours a day to probably barely cover their expenses.

That's capitalism, wopp. Would you rather have the alternative?

Meadowhall have a butchers, crawshaws near to Mothercare downstairs

wopp

bensonhedges - I was more referring to the fact that Meadowhall don't want independant shops anywhere in Meadowhall other than shoved away hidden in a corner.

The Pret BLT has one of the highest Salt contents for a sandwich on sale in the UK.

All that glitters aint gold.

Must admit, I like their Cheddar with Pret Pickle, but in my local Pret they only have it when it's on veggie special, about 1 week in 4. The rest of the time they don't sell a cheese sarnie. Very strange.

I think it's a shame rubbish like Primark and Next are going to take up the majority of the space - same old shops that we've already got in nearby towns. Something posh like Harvey Nichols or Selfridges would have been loads better, yeah they're expensive but so what, it's free to browse lol

Good call.

I wish there was a SpaceNK although i'd probably spend too much in there. A Bravissimo and an Ann Summers so i don't have to go up to leeds for them.

A Selfridges would be lovely along the lines of the Trafford Centre but i don't think it's going to happen. Much nicer shop than Harvey Nichols. Harvey Nichols in Leeds is very difficult to shop.

But hey bring on primark. Two of my best buys of the last year from there!

If Harvey Nichols or Selfridges don't want to open there, no-one can make them, and I'm sure if they did, Meadowhall wouldn't turn them down. So obviously they don't think Sheffield is upmarket enough for them.
I don't like next, but I do like Primark for stuff you don't want to last a lifetime. (or a couple of months):hihi:

As a tall person I wish Long Tall Sally would open a branch in Sheffield. I also wish Next would stock their ladies extra long clothes in the shops instead of having to buy it online

Remember that the a Big New Shopping Complex ( John Lewis being the main one to declare its intention to relocate) are to built in the Sheffield City Centre so still time for some new Retailers to hit town and your pocket!

When I first came to Sheffield I visited Meadowhall and enquired if there was a branch of Ann Summers. The lady on the information desk snootily said we don't have that type of shop here. The lady concerned must not have realised that they now sell loads of lovely underwear.

Ended up going to Chesterfield where there is an Ann Summers.

Nearest one to my knowledge is the outlet village between Leeds and York (A46?)

I'd like a Abercrombie & Fitch store I really like there clothing. It would be something different for Sheffield to have as I think the only store they have at the moment is in London, though I think Harvey Nic's and Selfridges maybe sell a little of theirs.

How does Meadowhall primark compare with the one in town? In terms of size and variety of stock?

The town one is pretty poor tbh - even the Middlesbrough one is better - and the Leeds and Newcastle ones are almost like a different shop!
