View Full Version : Anyone interested in the Knitting and Stiching Show?
knitbird 02-08-2007, 18:04 Details here (http://www.twistedthread.com/knittingandstitchingshow/index.asp). I'm thinking of going to the Birmingham one on the train on the 16th Sept, but it would be fab to go as a group! Anyone interested? I've heard that these are wonderful.
peakwool 02-08-2007, 18:05 Hi I would be very interested in going.
Sounds good, and a brill idea, but can I put it into practice? Will have to think it out.... think think think...........
knitbird 02-08-2007, 18:11 If we all book advance tickets for the show and the train then you'll have to make it work! Should be able to get a good advance rate, and knit all the way there! We'd want to be there at opening time wouldn't we?
I went on the train last year and it was good fun (despite meeting Mother-in-law there) and I spent way too much money of course...
I would be interested in going again, bank balance and therefore employment allowing. Need a new job, being a housewife and a slovenly one at that, is not quite my cup of tea. Ooh, cup of tea... back soon.
Madam_Bo 02-08-2007, 18:47 Me me me!
I might go to the Ally Pally one - I've got a good knitting friend in London, so we might make a weekend of it.
Would we get the train in Sheffield and get off at the NEC? Do they have a station there?
I'm going to the Ally Pally one again this year, so don't think I can stretch to two trips unfortunately :(

Sorry, but what is Ally Pally (saves me looking it up like )
The Knitting and stitching show at Alexandra Palace. It's the same stall holders (more or less) as the NEC and Harrogate, but I make a weekend of it with some friends.

Oh! Ally Pally! I get it now ;) thank you for putting up with my slowness and not shouting at me :D

I think they run a shuttle bus service from Birmingham New Street - I might be wrong, I'm usually so zonked as I pass through that I'm not paying much attention.
Just looked it up and the NEC has its own station! Are you going to check out prices knitbird?
I'm booked for the Harrogate one in November. It's a four day trip one whole day getting there 2 days at the show and another whole day coming home again!!
beansforyou 02-08-2007, 21:41 I can't decide between Harrogate or Birmingham :suspect:
My Birthday is the 17th Sept - so Birmingham one could be a nice treat
But
The November one would give me more time to save up...
It's a bit tricky cos it's hubby's birthday on the 16th but he might be in Glasgow then too and it's son's birthday on the 14th but he is camping for that weekend. Questions questions....
I'll be going to the Harrogate one in November. We usualy go by coach on the Saturday, but this year the tickets were nearly £35 which I thought was really expensive to say that the ticket to get into the show isn't that much.
So, I think i've persuaded hubby to take us. He's searching for guitar shops in the area!
littleblue 03-08-2007, 09:15 I'll come with you knitbird!!
I might even be back in Sheffield then - failling that I'll meet you lot there :D
knitbird 03-08-2007, 15:41 Do you know, I am such a fool, I was wondering why 16th sounded like a good day, it's the day I fly to Malta. I could make the 14th (Saturdays aren't possible for me) or the Ally Pally or Harrogate shows.
If a lot of people want to go at once we could maybe hire a minibus or something, (though I don't drive:() Birmingham International is the station for the NEC and it's very easy to get to.
Feeling very ashamed of my total lack of organisation. :help:
I went to the Harrogate show last year as I couldn't get away to get to Ally Pally due to having a new wool shop. Harrogate was big enough although not all companies are there (Colinette for instance).
I would be happy to get together for a minibus trip on the Sunday as it is a bit tiring driving there, walking round all day and then driving back. (no one was packing up early on the Sunday last year so I didn't feel as though I had missed too much).
If a lot of people want to go at once .... I would happily hire and drive a minibus if anyone was interested to either Harrogate or the NEC!
knitbird 05-08-2007, 14:39 Harrogate on the Friday or Sunday would be fab. Especially if Mara can drive us there, that would be cheaper than the train definately. November gives way more time to save up too.
Of course we'd go shares in the minibus, sounded there like we'd let Mara pay for it all.
Madam_Bo 05-08-2007, 14:42 I would totally stand up my friend in London and go with you guys! Only problem is, I might be nearer to London than Harrogate when the time comes. It'll be a week or so before I can count myself in or out...
I'm still interested.... thinking of hiring Mark out to drive us - only a 7 seater though......
beansforyou 05-08-2007, 21:06 Well it's sounding more and more like i'll be taking mum and maybe sister to the Harrogate show, so we could perhaps meet up once there for a cuppa?
I'll have to let you know what weird haircut I have that week so you can recognise me
For anyone interested: knitters from the Stocksbridge group are going to Harrogate in November. One of the knitters is sorting out the costs for a coach for her other crafts group and 'us knitters'. I'm sure there will be enough seats left. All is still in the planning phase but if you want, I can keep you informed.

Yes please, Bami. Sounds like fun!
