Have any of you purchased/flicked through this book?

I saw it yesterday in hobbycraft and the patterns looks wonderful, complex, but gorgeous.

I just wondered if anyone else had it and could give their opinions?

It is here (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Victorian-Lace-Today-Jane-Sowerby/dp/1933064072/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/203-3157647-9647926?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1186073839&sr=8-1)

It's lovely. I've flicked through someone else's copy. Only don't have my own due to the cost, and the 7 projects I have the yarn for waiting to be knitted. :hihi:

I have this on my Amazon wish list but I haven't actually seen it in person.

I have it - some of the patterns are truly hideous, some are stunning. I doubt I'll knit much form the book, but I do think it's worth having for the inspiration, and it explains how to create your own lace patterns which is helpful.

Hi I have looked through it and will do some of the patterns when I have enough time to do them justice

I have it. The photos are stunning but to be honest I would have rather had smaller photos and larger charts, they are teeny and the first thing you have to do is enlarge them. There are a lot of scarves in various sizes and yardages and the patterns are graded by level of difficulty.

You surely don't NEED charts w4b? :o

Are charts supposed to be easier or harder to follow than written directions?

I'm doing Branching Out at the moment, and wouldn't have a clue trying to follow the chart.

Me neither beans, not that good with charts. I found the instructions not too bad though - quite surprised. My Mum got it as a Mother's Day Pressie.

It's all about personal preference. I find written instructions for lace to be far too difficult, but a chart makes it so much simpler to follow for my little brain.

Me too AmelieB. I much prefer a chart to written instructions. They just form a picture in my mind ad I can get on ok then, but the words just jumble into oblivion.
