View Full Version : Commuting to Huddersfield
Hi,
I just got offered a better job but its in huddersfield, about 35 miles away.
I don't really want to move out to the sticks unless I have to- is it possible to commute from Sheff? It took me an hour and a half in rush hour traffic to get there for the interview!
Whats the best route? M1 or back roads? Or is it a commute to far?
I live t'southside now but would it make more sense moving up Chapeltown way?
Anyone on the forum able to offer any words of wisdom?
Cheers
my other half commutes to huddersfield (well, a small village this side of huddersfield), takes about 45 mins by the main road route (not motorway).

I've done it - used to take me around 45-50 minutes coming over the Stocksbridge bypass. I never braved the motorway route so can't offer any advice there (though to be honest Huddersfield town centre is a long way from the M1), but avoid Penistone Road like the plague!
Where abouts in Huddersfield are we talking, the centre?
dave1814 21-12-2004, 12:24 Hi,
I am from hudds originally so used to commute back and to quite a lot when i was at uni. On a quiet day the best and frankly the most stress free way to get there is M1-M62, but it depends on where about in hudds you need to go. Otherwise I usually go the M1 then take the Hudds exit off the motorway. I did used to go the penistone way when i worked in hillsborough but not anymore. Hope this is some help!

The M62-M1 option isn't going to work as a commute - it means passing through the hell that is the M62 around Leeds - though it isn't too bad in the evenings, or on a weekend. When I used to come into Sheffield from Hudds, I'd go along the Stocksbridge bypass, followed by sneaky run down the A6102 (I think), and a weave through some little streets around Wadsley. Cuts literally *minutes* off a morning's journey!
cheers guys,
Its looking like stocksbridge bypass is the winner at the minute. Just had a look on the road atlas and it seems like the most direct route an all.
Hopefully if I can be in Hudds for about 8.30 it should reduce the amount of time spent in jams.

And for all you at the back - one more time.....

Depends where in Sheffield you are coming from, and where in Hudds it is you're going!
I live 2 mins from M1 JN35, and it's only 10 mins on the M1! JN 38 is Hudds, then takes about another 25 minutes from there to get to the city centre.
I could get from Sheff City Centre to Hudds City Centre in 45 minutes at a quite busy time.
What's all the talk about the M62?? That's like, 4 more junctions up the M1!!
