Me and the lass are going to start dance lessons (she finally convinced me) but we (see: I) dont want some "ballroom dancing-blackpool-day-trip" kind of dancing...

something with a bit of "panash". Somewhere that teaches varied styles...

We both live in the city centre....can anyone reccommend a good dance centre fro people VERY new to the whole thing??

thanks

Hi, City Limits on Penistone Road (next door to the Peugeot Garage) is very good; cover a wide range of styles, including Latin, Jive and ballroom etc. They do group classes and also private lessons, which are £30 per hour. This is what we do, and it has to be said like you I only started because my wife wanted to do it, but it is actually great fun, our instructor is Daniella, she’s fantastic and if you do go to City Limits I couldn't recommend her enough, just tell her Nick & Sharon recommended you.

Good luck

N.

If you are looking for something that is totally removed from ballroom dancing then pop along to Crookes WMC on a Wednesday or Thursday evening and learn modern jive. It is a great fun night and you will meet and make loads of friends. Good exercise too. Starts at 7.30 and the evening ends at 10.30. A great night out. And the music is very varied as you can dance modern jive to virtually any record be it fast, slow or in the middle!!!

If you decide on city limits and want to actually learn to dance rather than just attend a social free for all then I recommend getting private lessons rather than joining a group class.
We went to group lessons there for 10 weeks and at week 10 we were doing exactly the same steps as we were in week 1, nothing new, nothing different and no turning involved!
We have since decided to go to the dance centre at beighton instead and have some private lessons...where we have learnt more in 1 hour as we did in 10 weeks in the group.

i couldn't recommend Drapesr enough, we've been several timesfor different styles.
the biggest problem is carrying it on after you've learnt - you end up forgetting it unfortunately.

Like dancing? Aha, why not attend the mobile clubbing experience on the morrow? 1pm in the Peace Gardens. Put on your mp3 player and dance away! It's a cultural phenomenon, or it will be anyway!
