View Full Version : Mobile Clubbing / Silent Disco on Saturday
ohmyword 02-08-2007, 01:20 PM Now then, this will be a cultural phenomenon. It's going to be the first proper PEACE GARDENS MOBILE CLUBBING SESSION on SATURDAY 4th AUGUST.
Here's the deal: You turn up at 1pm in the Peace Gardens with your Ipod / MP3 player, and you DANCE to your music. The idea is to have a plethora of people dancing en masse at the same time in the same place.
This has been done in various places in the UK before now, and it looks great fun (do a google search for "silent disco" or "mobile clubbing" and see what you can find!).
What's more, it is very likely that Big Brother's Little Brother's "B-Team" will be coming along to record it! Yes, that's Nikki and Glynn - 2 of the finest Z list celebrities you could ever wish to meet.
You see, Oh My Word is about more than just playing ramshackle melodies for your ears, it's about engineering MEDIA EVENTS too!
It'll be ace! Who's gonna come?
LibertyBell 02-08-2007, 01:25 PM Don't have an ipod but will come to look and take a vid.
ohmyword 02-08-2007, 01:28 PM OK then! You can listen to whatever by the way - personal CD player? Classic audio cassette walkman if you have one that works?!! It'll be phenomenal! We had a test run through last month, and it was most promising!
theripsaw 02-08-2007, 01:36 PM The idea is to have a plethora of people dancing en masse at the same time in the same place.
Isnt that an arrestable offence nowadays? And dont you need a dance licence? Isnt this country great
ohmyword 02-08-2007, 01:42 PM It's not arrestable per se, but yes, without a dance license it does open up a can of worms. Luckily, we managed to get a dance license a couple of years ago when we were putting on our "Renegade Culture Shock Weekender", and I checked and it is indeed still valid. Nothing can stop us now, and remember, Big Brother might be there!
jamesogt 02-08-2007, 01:44 PM Hmmmm in a nightclub or bar dancing is a 'licensable' activity. Unless it is morris dancing lol that is exempt!
ohmyword 02-08-2007, 01:51 PM Haha. Rolfchops! Of course Morris dancing is exempt - they do it anyway! However, it might be interesting to get a bunch of people to storm the Devvy Cat en masse and do some Morrissey Dancing - with the gladioli, the quiffs and everything!
You can do any style of dancing at our mobile disco on Saturday by the way - even rhumba!
pussycat 02-08-2007, 01:59 PM This sounds like a fantastic laugh! I'd be there with me tunes, but I'm off on holiday.
Next time though, definitely!
ohmyword 02-08-2007, 02:02 PM Cheers Pussycat! Tell your mates about it for Saturday if they're around, and have a super hols!
susie34 02-08-2007, 02:52 PM ive just asked my daughter if she fancied going. her reply was you having a laugh forget it
so i dont think she is up 4 it
ohmyword 02-08-2007, 03:07 PM Ha! Well cheers for asking anyway, Susie. She is right of course - we are having a laugh - that's the whole point! We might get on TV too. That might attract some people down. Spread the word! This will indeed be a cultural phenomenon!
ohmyword 02-08-2007, 03:44 PM Did I mention the fact that it'll be phenomenal? Nikki and Glynn are coming!
EdnaKrabappe 02-08-2007, 04:03 PM This does sound a good laugh... just watched some of the stuff on Youtube. A day of listening to only your music.. shame you are all away Pussycat! :(
Surprised Nikki is going out in public after her flogging last weekend. :o
ohmyword 02-08-2007, 04:05 PM Yes, it looks splendid! Did anyone see our test run in the Peace Gardens last months? There were just 3 of us dancing near the fountains. It was real good! Are you coming EdnaKrabappe?

No I won't be - as Pussycat and a few others are my dancing buddies and they are ALL away all separately. :( What bad timing eh?
ohmyword 02-08-2007, 04:40 PM 'Tis poor timing, BUT why not dance with the Oh My Word Road Gang? We're a collective, a little bit like So Solid Crew but without the vile violence. Yes, and Nikki and Glynn will be dancing too! We'll make sure of it. Look here for our place on the web

xxxxxxx
Footiefreak 04-08-2007, 07:34 PM So what happened? I took the kids into town for lunch near the fountain and there were only about 5 people dancing. Most people didn't have a clue what it was all about and were looking as though these people were completely mad:loopy: - if more young 'uns had joined in it would have looked quite good! And what happened to Nikki and Glynn?! Thought they where coming along as well.
LibertyBell 04-08-2007, 09:41 PM Fair play to you for having the nerve to do it...I assume it was you. Maybe a rethink of your publicity could be in order.
velvet girl 05-08-2007, 02:24 PM aye nikki and glynn what was with that?!
was a bit dodgy but their pr person assured me they were coming
ohmyword 08-08-2007, 10:53 AM Yeah. I thought Nikki and Glynn were coming. Their PR person spoke to velvet_girl only the previous night. Nevermind. Next time will be even better. Rotherham wasn't built in a day, as 'they' say!
Ghozer 30-08-2007, 09:40 PM sounds like a flash mob....
ohmyword 01-09-2007, 12:57 AM Flash Mob ahoy! Yes, there's gonna be one tomorrow (Saturday) actually - mobile clubbing. Peace Gardens from 1pm. Be there, near the fountains!
Ha3el 02-09-2007, 05:08 PM apparently the world has gone mad :loopy:
