This maybe a bit of a daft question... But whilst i was laying in bed last night full of Cold which just so happened to start from a sore throat at approx 3.30pm yesterday afternoon... as the evening went on so the sneezes came along with the headpains...

Anyway moving on... I seem to catch a Cold at the same time every year and wondered if i am an odd bod or does it or can it actually work that way...

My Colds seem to appear in the Summer which is a nightmare... and over the Festive Season....

I remember one year laying on the beach sun bathing coughing sneezing etc... with tissues everywhere it was a little strange to say the least... as Colds are usually related to winter... But there again there is such a thing called 'The Summer Cold' which i guess i am a great target for... :(

If its not before or over Christmas then it arrives New years Eve... I have twice now been sat on the sofa all wrapped up snuggly in a duvet with my box of tissues beside me watching Big Ben strike midnight... Happy New Year! :?

I guess the 'Cold Germ' just hates me having fun ... I'm hoping my cold will be gone in time for Christmas... an doesnt appear again for New Year... There's nothing like feeling that all you want to do is crawl back to bed... mmmm

I haven't succummed to a cold for quite some time. Despite the kids currently made up with this years cough and cold and the hubby i am still okay
Fingers crossed this should keep up, because if I get it christmas day I won't be cooking! :(

I remember at school I used to get one every christmas, don't know what it is I have done recently to avoid the yearly onslaught.

Hi Angel05..............I've got a stinker of a cold too that I thought I'd worked off but it struck again (doesn't help having kids bringing bugs home though). I would recommend putting a bit of whiskey in your cuppa and if you can manage it, a bit of porridge - all to warm you up from the inside. They are the two things I haven't done this time around so I've only myself to blame.

Hope you get well so you can enjoy Christmas.

I hope your cold soon passes Angel, at our house it's a Christmas ritual for the missis to get up on Christmas day full of it (cold I mean), then it works it's way through us all, until finally arriving with me at New Years Eve, no snogs there then! :help: A few years ago it got me when on holiday in Tenerife, so for a week I had to drink copious amounts of that splendid Ron Miel (honey rum) that they make over there....then she twigged me:mad:

I had not had a cold for ages, just got back from holiday and I think the 10 hours on a plane breathing recycled air had given me the most evil cold ever! Also looks bad, having 2 weeks holiday then phoning in sick when you get home... I rang my boss and am sure it sounds like I am putting in on, I sound like the man in the old Tunes advert!

If you've got a blocked nose or 'claggy' throat with your cold, try cutting diary products out of your diet, completely (its hard work i know) This will not cure your cold, but it might make it easier to live with as it dries up your nose and throat making life just that little bit easier.
I do it every time i get a head cold or the rediculous hayfever i get in summer and it works a treat. :D

Dont know how true this is but I was told that Brandy is a good cure for the common cold, try it and if it doesnt work then it was a good excuse for some alcohol.

I hate getting colds myself, whenever I get them I find that I am bunged up more than the usual 2 weeks because it always affects my sinuses, that feeling of not being able to breath is horrible and the pain in your face and jaw is the worst.

What do you guys think of that Flu jab, personally I wouldnt touch it with a barge pole cos everyone I know who's had it end up with worse symptoms then if they caught it naturally.

Im off to stock up on the Brandy, purely for medicinal purposes you understand.

Happy Xmas Folks

I've had the flu jab every year sinceI was 13 and I've never had anything worse than a couple of days of acheyness, my dad did end up with flu after one jab but only once in many years. I'd rather risk the few days of feeling slightly ill than a fortnight of feeling like death.

I always get colds in batches... usually about 2 months after everyone else has recovered...

It's almost like they wait around to fit into my diary (or not as the case may be)... :suspect:

I have often caught colds at christmas time due to lots of people meeting up. But a couple of occasions spring to mind in particular, from my younger years, when I have got off with females and spent the whole night snogging, only a few hours later to come down with a disasterous flu which has left me housebound and poorly for the best part of a week, scuppering any relationship that might have developed.
It's as if my body was protecting me from getting involved with some dodgy women! :nono:

I'm sure this has happened to most people...

Last time I was coming down with a cold was a couple of months ago just before a weekend in Holland. So I ate loads of Onion, Garlic and Lemsip, and Somehow I shook it off in about 3 days...

I had glandular fever for several months this year (from the same root as above Muddycoffee!)

Since then I've eat loads of fresh fruit and veg, taken vitamin supplements every day.

I've had the odd sniffle since then, but have fought them all off really quickly. Dunno if its just the fact that I was quite vulnerable to things when I was ill, so had everything going, which boosted my immunity, or if its all the vitamins.

I usually eat plenty of fruit when I have a cold I also drink lots of fluids. And I allways go and buy a vindaloo or other hot curry.
it allways works for me

Good things to eat / drink when you have colds are foodstuffs packed with ANTIOXIDANTS - natural ones at that.

For example beetroot, tomatoes, red wine  .
They attack all the free-radicals in your system that are making you feel crook.
Vitamin C fruits too, which include peppers.

Don't forget the number 1 thing you must eat! GARLIC!
Excellent symptom shifter.

So yes, have a good strong garlic/tomatoey curry & a bottle of red. You may stink but bugger that; as long as you feel better!

Working in a school I am bound to catch something in the winter. At present we have students and staff off with a whole host of ailments. Sore throats, colds, earache, stomach upset and sickness. I have had a combination of all of these except earache for over 2 weeks! :help: I need a break in a warm climate!

I've not had any traditional symptoms of for almost 2 years. Although plenty of people around me have had a cold, I have not caught it for some reason.

When I was younger I used to have several a year.

Argh! Mine has just started today! Damn!

Now I definatley know I'm going to be ill for Christmas :(

I'm hoping it won't get any worse though... at the moment it's a runny nose and a sore throat which I can live with.

I never used to get ill but ever since being in intensive care, my immune system has been really weakend so now I'm prone to bloody everything!

I thought I was the only one.

I nearly always get a cold on either xmas day or boxing day.

I put it down too overwork and my imune system being down.

Another reason I hate xmas:(

I suppose i'm really lucky. I can't remember the last time i had a cold. Infact...I can't remember the last time i was ill!.

I sometimes get a dodgy throat but it clears up in a few hours.

I put it down to plenty of fruit, cycling to work and a daily multivitamin ;)

I have been poorly on every Christmas Day for as long as I can remember, and I caught the flu last week and can't seem to shake it.

But I have a cunning plan.

Me and my mates had our own "Christmas Day" today, which I was naturally ill for, so hopefully I'll have tricked the flu virus into thinking today was the real Xmas, hence it will have buggered off when I come back to Sheffield the day after tomorrow...

Take zinc supplement tablets - they boost your immune system. I haven't had a cold for over 2 years (famous last words - is that a sniffle?).

If you get overtired and stressed out, you get run down and then susceptible all the bugs going around. So get plenty of natural vitamins from good food, not junk. Get proper sleep if you can and finish the day with a hot lemon and runny honey drink, which also helps during the day. All these medicinal concoctions just seem to prolong the agony, so you might just as well suck a boiled sweet for a sore throat and enjoy it.

The thing with colds is this...

There are around 120 known different types of common cold and you can only catch each one once in your lifetime. Once you've had that one yo can't get it again.

The reason that colds are more associated with winter is because you generally have all the windows closed in the house or office so the air doesn't re-cylce as much as in the summer so cold and flu germs stay in the atmosphere.

I've heard that eating a good spicy curry is a good cure for a cold.

i usually get my summer col in june and my winter one in october/ november. thy're usually mild when i get them, but i seem to mutate them into the plague because a week later everyone i know feels like death on a stick. i think it's good to share though!
