Code13 01-08-2007, 15:01 Do you know that there is a Writers Group in the "Sheffield Interest Groups" section of this website? Danielblythe 01-08-2007, 16:09 There are lots run by the Workers' Educational Association, some of which I teach myself, and they are much cheaper than the University or College. We have a Writers' Workshop on Wednesday mornings at Walkley, to be led by Sue Shaw. There is a Writing Short Stories course running on Tuesday evenings from September 25th in Stannington at the Wood Lane Countryside Centre, and a Writing A Novel course running on Thursdays from Sept 27th at Sheffield Independent Film (town centre), both led by me. I'm leading independently-run courses too - I'm doing a one-day course on How To Write A Novel on Sat 22nd Sept at Wood Lane Centre. If you like non-fiction then Susan Elliot-Wright does some highly recommended courses which are advertised in libraries. Email me for more info: danielblythe@blueyonder.co.uk Hope that's useful! all best Dan hazel 02-08-2007, 05:15 I go to a creative writing class at Woodhouse library. It's just started and is free, hazel jomarch 02-08-2007, 10:34 I can recommend Susan Elliot Wright- I think she's starting a new class in September at the Tabernacle hall in Hillsborough. You do have to pay, but the advice is professional and Susan is a published writer who knows her stuff. Going to her class last year changed my life! BasilRathbon 02-08-2007, 10:56 I'm another ex-Heeley writer. Although I haven't been for years, I understand the group is still going. The most recent contact details I can find are here... http://www.thefwwcp.org.uk/pages/groups_yorkshire.php Aries22 02-08-2007, 14:50 Basil Why not join SFs own writing group, I am sure they will be able to give you some tips etc Danielblythe 02-08-2007, 16:36 Please see my separate thread in the Writing Group (under Sheffield Interest Groups) about my latest one-day course. wiglet 06-08-2007, 09:57 Thanks everyone! Yes, I'm running another creative writing class in hillsborough starting this september. This one is an evening course, but I'm also running two afternoon classes, one in Highfield (london road) and one in Ecclesall road. All are suitable for both beginners and those who have some experience of writing. I had a great mix of beginners and advanced students last year, and by the end of the course, ALL of them were producing some really good stuff. If you're interested in attending one of these courses, please pm me for details. I also run 1-day non-fiction workshops - next one will be early next year. |
