Is anybody involved in this at all. Any idea what the proposed route is? I've heard a rumour that it's all going to be in the city centre.

It is going to be city centre, not sure of the route but they sometimes put the routes on the great run website . I have registered but I think places will go fairly soon. It's a practice for the Great North Run for me!

I have taken part in quite a few Great Runs, and the route will be put online prior to the event, but they say is will be undulating (in Sheffield?)!

I have signed up, but unfortunately forgot that it is my GF b'day weekend, and I promised to take her to London... doh!

Lexy_W - how is your training going for GNR? I am taking part too. Whats your expected finish time etc? Where you do you training runs?

Training is going OK, running 20k in about 2 hours at the moment but that's with loads of hills! Hoping to finish in 1.50, 1.45 or so. I'm really enjoying the training though!

I'm running around Millhouses, Graves Park, Dore etc. Longest run so far has been top of Abbey Lane to Fox House and back - that was a killer!

I was going to do it and was really looking forward to it, then I realised it's on a Sunday so I'll have a football match. I really love playing football so I'm not missing on a game for running when I'm not exactly the best runner. I was up for it as I need to get better at long distances, the most I've ever done is about 8 miles, but I've got ambitions of doing a marathon one day! So I need to start pushing past that, when it gets to winter I might start pounding the streets again.

it's a 10k not a half marathon. i ran the first 5k of the route last night - most of it is on a slight incline.

Been on the website for the run, but couldn't find a telephone number or an email address.

Does anyone know who's organising this or their contact details please.

Nick, thanks for that. I was dreading having to go with my website receipt and try to get it sorted on the morning of the race, along with potentially hundreds of others.

<EDIT>
S'OK now thanks Nick, but the panic is finally over, the postman delivered today!

Well despite not enough training, I didn't do as bad as I expected. Only a couple of short walking breaks and a time of 59:50.

Saw my watch had 30 seconds left to the hour and thought to myself I can get under the hour...and let the legs go!

Must get back to regular training again...gotta beat 58:57 I set at Clumber park 10k last year

Next one in a fortnight in Leeds! :loopy:

Went to cheer my friend on (and the other runners of course) it was a good atmosphere and spurred my hubby and me on to want to do it next year. Will have to get out running more before that though. :thumbsup:The most either of us have done before is 5k. I must say we thought the £22 entry fee was a bit steep, where did it go to?
Was also disappointed that The Star doesn't have hardly any coverage tonight - one small picture of the womens race winner with a column just about the athletes. Nothing about the fun runners who were the ones raising thousands of pounds for charity. I hope they dont let the City down and will be putting a "good spread" in tomorrows paper. If not I think we should all write in and ask where the coverage is!
Anyway a big Well Done to all the runners, hope the legs dont ache too much today!

Bupa make no secret they run the great run series for profit. It states as much on the great run web site somewhere.

£22 probably went towards goody bag (t-shirt, medal), the chip system, setting it up and to the council. Think BUPA pay great run for sponsorship as do nike so basically brendan foster is loaded.

I did the 10K run last Sunday and thought it was absolutely fantastic!!!

I loved the carnival atmostphere with the music from Hallam FM and the bands that were dotted around the course. The drums really got you into a rythm for the uphill stretches which were plentiful.

One young man said it was nearly as bad as Edinburgh with the hills as the last 400m seemed to take forever. tough course.

The full race is on Channel 5 tonight from midnight
