okay. words of one syllable.

have you heard of mobile phones?

have you heard of 3G mobile phones?

do you know you can get a card to slot into your computer that uses a 3G mobile connection?

erm what strix said:

a 3g card gives you 400 odd kbps anywhere you can get a mobile phone signal supposedly. expensive (comparatively) though as it is charged by the megabyte

then there's satellite access.

or you could find a suitable friend with access, who lives close by and set up a pair of ronjas.

Thanks Phan. I was struggling there!

I'm fairly certain Mr Strix's connection for work is a flat monthly fee. They upgraded him to 3G coz his e-mails were costing too much on a time based tarrif with the old moblie technology!

Looks like the cheapest way to get broadband is to swallow my pride and get a BT land line (I hate BT).:(

Word of advice on this...

BT phone are a lot better than they used to be... but don't under any circumstances go with a BT ISP... My recommendation would be either demon.net (who have very good support) or virgin.net (if support isn't a major factor)

I don't think I need to tell you to avoid AOHell like the plague as you're an ex tech if memory serves...

Are there any adsl / broadband suppliers who will give you a broad abnd or ADSL connection without having a bt phone number?

Ive got a phone socket in the house but don't have a land line number.

Probably not but worth asking..
