Seems like there might be some interest so I'm proposing we do a Five Weirs walk on Thursday Evening. I suggest we meet at Lady's Bridge at 6:30pm and walk up as far as Broughton Lane - stop for a Pint/Lemonade/Coffee at the Noose and Gibbet and then back via the Canal to the Canal Basin. Approx 5.5 miles. Alternatives for anyone is to complete the walk up to Meadowhall and catch transport from there
I'm definitely going along to admire my (and others) efforts in clearing up after the flood.

I might be up for this.

Is the FWW open all the way along now?

I don't think so - the Baily Bridge near Thos W Wards has been closed for some time because of theft of cables, also near Washford Bridge has been closed because of flood debris - but this may be open after weekend work - I'm not really sure as I only did the Saturday cleanup. Also this weekend thieves stole cabling from the Cobweb Bridge. Just got to be prepared for some minor detours I think :)

I'll be joining the walk and have a look at the work done on the river.

When the cleaning up the River Don started in 1965 - 70. No one then, would have thought it possible that what happened last weekend with all the mainly voluntary workers would or could ever happen.

It would be nice if any of the first volunteer's still around could join.

Yet another fab walk - weather was great. Pity that some nutters have destroyed bits of bridges along the way :( Hopefully see ya'all on another walk soon :)

Ooops, I forgot all about this... Hope you had a nice walk, should have been a good night for it.

Have had a good walk along the canal at lunchtimes - what's the FWW like? Is it all open yet?

One thing I would say is the Noose and Gibbet is dire and would suggest the Wentworth (or Friendship) or detour from the canal to the Cocked Hat.

Lovely stroll in perfect weather, especially along the canal. Nice to see dozens of people fishing both in the river and on the canal, pity no-one seems to walk down there though cos its ideal being so flat.

Was really refreshing to get out during the week for once, especially given the rarity of the warm weather.
Also really nice to meet you Alan!
Copped out a little early and took the tram home - hope the rest of you made it home safely.

Good stroll on a warm sunny evening - I was really tired out when I got back and fell asleep on the settee until 2:00am. Lots of diversions first of all Cobweb Bridge closed because steel cables stolen, Baily Bridge closed for same reason. Just past Washford Bridge closed - still debris from flood I think. However, the streaches around Salmon Pastures up to Washford Bridge are looking nice and clean thanks to all the volunteers who turned out.
Only a few pictures - too busy talking - which I've posted here.

Now what would be really nice would be a picture of the scrotes who stole the cables in leg irons cleaning up the riverbank.

Ah well back to reality - we had a good refreshment stop at the Wentworth pub - I could easily have stayed there until closing time. Note next time must call at the Cocked Hat which is where I had my very first pint of beer. I was only 16 at the time working at Brown Bayley's steelworks which backed onto the Cocked Hat - it was hot work and I used to be the beer lad fetching ale for the furnacemen. There was a 6 foot high wall with some railings on top which you rattled with a stick, then handed your money over and got jugs/bottles of beer passed back through the railings. Always made sure there was a pint in it for me:)
