Forgot to mention that this is open for both male and female over 16s with or without previous experience on this exciting Olympic sport. (Plus if you are British you may still have the chance to get into the 2012 Olympic team as there is a shortage of players).

The first handball training of the season saw 6 people train and the quality and determination shown give a clear sign of what an exciting season this one is going to be.
The next training will take place next Saturday 11th of August 2007, we will be meeting at 1pm at Goodwin Sports Centre (Northumberland Road; usport.com)and start a physical/fitness practice at the nearby ponderosa park, then get some practice going indoors at 2pm for an hour, therefore the cost will be only 2 pounds.
Just as a reminder, feel free to bring your friends along as all over 16s and non-experineced sporty people are more than welcome.
Finally, just two more things, our website is sheffieldhandball.com and if you need to contact me you can either reply to this thread, to azpiazus@hotmail.com or at 07506704199

Definitely interested having watched a number of Champions League games on Eurosport (boredom has a lot to answer for). Is training always going to be on a Saturday?

azpiazu

At the moment we are training only on Saturdays because we are still finding out when people can make it during the week to maybe add a session on a weekday night, preferably Tuesday. And BTW you're most welcome!

On the session celebrated on the 18th of August, a total of 10 handball lovers got together in what turned out to be the largest (and Male only) session so far this year.
With the always appreciated help of Ian Cook and Graham Hammond the session saw the players train outside for an hour where the weather conditions did not make it any easier to get hold of the ball and an hour inside the court where the technical skills of the players vastly improved.
With some 5/6 weeks before the season starts the team is finalising the purchase of a kit alongside a badge that will be revealed in the website shortly.
Moreover, the team may have found a sponsor thanks to the contribution of Tom Griffiths to the team.
Finally a reminder that this Tuesday 21st there will be a training at the now familiar Goodwin Sports Centre (usport.co.uk) from 8pm until 9pm, and the next training after that will be Saturday 25th from 1pm until 3pm with a similar schedule to that of last week, with an hour outdoors and an hour indoors.
The Sheffield Handball Team would like to invite all Male and Females over 16 who have a passion for handball or would like to try the fastest and most exciting of the team sports to come and join us for one of the training sessions mentioned above. (No previous experience needed)

Keep checking our website www.sheffieldhandball.com for more info.

22/08/2007 Sheffield
On the first session on a Tuesday this season there were 10 of us, 5 of which were new additions. It was also good to see old friends coming back to it after the summer gap.
Their input saw the team split in two for the first few minutes as Graham took over in explaining the rules to the new 3 girls in the team while the 7 men trained their shooting techniques.
After a little confusion on what the positions were, everything came into place when the teams played a 6 on 4 game, which was the delight of the night.
The next training sessions will be on:
Saturday 25th August 2007. 13:00 to 15:00
Tuesday 28th August 2007 20:00 to 21:00

The venue will be the Goodwin Sports Hall and the cost of the sessions will be 2 pounds.

Just to let people know that after going along last Saturday, I'll be back today. A great international mix of people and a brilliant introduction to a fast, furious and fun sport!

27/08/2007 Sheffield,
Saturday’s session saw a record attendance of 11 people to the training. Moreover, next year’s kit was also unveiled and details will soon follow.
With now no more than a month to the start of the season things are looking very well for the team as the attendance is quite high and increasing. It is also great news to have the inclusion of several girls, which will confirm the creations of the female side of the team.
The next trainings are:
Tomorrow, August 28th 8pm til 9pm
Saturday September 1st 1pm til 3pm

Venue: Goodwin sports centre (usport.co.uk) Cost: £2

03/09/2007 August Summary and Forthcoming Trainings
The future of the club is looking brighter than ever, with the attendance to training not dropping from 8, the club is building a good squad setting it’s mind into the first game in early October.
The next 2 weeks should be very active for the team, trying to close a sponsorship deal and registering for the England Handball Association.
In the next two trainings there will be an explanation of what each individual would have to do in order to get registered, but start preparing your passport size photos as that will be one of the requirements.
The next training sessions will take place on:
Tuesday 4th September at 8pm (1 hour)
Saturday 8th September at 1pm (2 hours)

The venue will be Goodwin Sports Hall and the cost £2.

After a really promising Tuesday training with 15 attendees, Saturday saw only 4 people training.
We now face the most important period of all with the preparation for the first ever game for our team on the 21st of October at Burnley, and the registration of the team due in the next few days.
Alongside this we will also have to change venue due to University’s Registration Week taking place at the Goodwin Sports Hall; moreover at the start of October new players will join the team.

It is a very exciting time for the team so it would be desirable to have a number of players turning up to most training days so that the team spirit also grows.

The next two trainings will be on Tuesday 11th at 8pm until 9pm and Saturday 15th from 1pm until 3pm. During these two days we will also proceed with registration, in order to do that please bring a passport size photo, a copy of some photo ID (driving license, passport or some other which includes a picture) and 25 pounds.

See you soon,

The Sheffield Handball Team (www.sheffieldhandball.com)

First of all, I would like to apologise for the lacklustre break of communication and my lack of organisation to let everyone know what was going on with the training.

Secondly, I would like to announce that there will be no games this week or next week, until further notice, as the University Hall we have been using is closed and I need to find a new hall where to train for the next week (which I am arranging as you read)

Finally, I would like to inform you that next Friday 28th September, the SHT will be advertising itself to the freshers at The University Of Sheffield.®
