I'm after a legend or story regarding Bradfield Church.
The story was of a lady from Stocksbridge who was riding to Sheffield in a blizzard when here horse threw her. She managed to make her way to bradfield church because of the sound of the bells. Because she was covered by snow the bell ringers mistuck her for a ghost and fled leaving her to perish in the church. Right thats the cut down version from what I can remember, but does anyone have a link to the story or know of a book with the story in.

I got covered in snow walking the dog this lunchtime, but didn't get mistaken for a ghost .....people round here are quite used to getting covered in snow  :D
Seriously...if you can find the time it would be worth a visit to the Archives at Bradfield Parish Council Offices, they're open every Thursday and have a lot of material not to be found in books. I've read most of the books and haven't come across this tale.
http://www.bradfieldparish.org.uk/ for more info...
Good luck !

I was married at Bradfield church, but this story's a new one on me.
Try Malcolm Nunn at the Bradfield Council offices (285 1375). He seems to be the local archivist.

Thankyou for your help it was a history teacher who told us the tale think he was a bell ringer there a mr King I think.
Malcolm Nunn is the Archivist for the Bradfield Parish Council and looks after the Bradfield archive.
The archive has to be open to the public at least once a week.
If anyone wants to visit it is free and and open all day every Thursday.
There isn't much that Malcolm Nunn doesn't know about the history of Bradfield and many parts of Sheffield and he will assist anyone he can.
It is best to ring first on 2851375, particularly if you want to see any particular document, book or photograph.
This will save his and your time on the day you visit.
Happy Days
