yes but we can't play our strongest team otherwise we won't have a team. Got to stay loyal to the players that have supported the nelson for many years, only fair. It's the only way to do it. I wouldn't want it any other way. Win as a team, lose as a team!!But i think our strongest 5 and springy's and punchbowl are evenly matched despite what the lge table says.

Maybe next year Actionman you would be better to have a Bteam like we do for the loyal players that support the pub and you can also then play your strongest 5 then.

actionman
24-07-2008, 13:35
you need 7 players really for a team incase of hols etc. We haven't got 14 to form 2 teams.

yorkshire33
24-07-2008, 13:53
Yes your team would be better if we did 2 sets of 7 then.

I know a man who says he can get 4 players that could beat Jason at ye olde rules. For some bread.

My personal question is who are the other 2 Fudgers that are capable?

Been a bit of a talking point tonight

I'm not in a position to set up matches for him. I'm just giving my opinion on his ability.

Like I said earlier, the amusing bit is the fact that people will put up a lot of money to feed their ego's. The key is to feed their ego's, then dip their pockets. There are a lot of players out there, that are nowhere near as good as they think they are. We all know someone like that. There's at least one in every league.

At least I know I'm **** and won't play for the price of a pint.

Side-stepping worthy of Come Dancing, DD (DonnyDog not Deadly Dunn).

I certainly wouldn't wish to get involved with cash matches, although winner stays on is a neccessity.

I wondered who in your opinion are the 2 players in your side that could "old man" Jason at old EPA as it's not a ruleset of the game that I've seen your lads play.

I would imagine that yourself,Glen,Malc and El Tel would have some nous with the darker arts, but I can't speak with too much knowledge, there's a possibility of Mark being able to win on pure pot n position, with back up fudge.

*disclaimer - pure speculation and opinion

donnydog

Contenders would have to include John Clarke and Ali D, although I think that he would beat Alan to be fair. You know the Sheffield fudgers better than I, so who do you think would be up there.

Where some players lose out, is that they're a one trick pony. Good at WR(potting)or good at fudging(not potting). Again, we know who they are.

Jason has great touch for fudging and knows the difference between a snooker and a very difficult snooker. He has very good tactical ability AND he can pot you off the table(see 130 break earlier). He's an intelligent bloke and can turn his hand to all rule sets. Not something we can say about a lot of players.

Ali D, Terry, Clarkey and Aggie (have cue, will travel) are the usual suspects but the art of fudging is a dying one with these WR, something i find a shame as i enjoy a fudge but dont have the opponents or the opportunity

Is it this Tuesday? Whats the format?

donnydog
26-07-2008, 01:16
Terry would have to be up there, but seems to blow a bit hot and cold these days. Wouldn't want to catch him when he's hot though.

Aggie. I forgot about. I think they had a few quid on a small match a few years ago after an interleague match. I think Jason won, but can't remember exactly to be honest. I think Aggie gave Jason a start over a short distance and then lost. Don't quote me though.

But, whilst they would all give him a game, including Ali D, I wouldn't be rushing to back any of them. And that's my point. I would definitely back against Nick(nice lad and all that), if he played any of those 4.

Singo won his match 20-16. Came from behind and played well in the 2nd half of the match. Adam is clearly a tidy player and had the better of the first half. Doesn't miss much. I think Adam was 13-9 up at one point.

Loads of dry breaks though. Just one of those things.

Enjoyed watching it.

Ali D, drawn me in the Yorkshire Open. That's a nice surprise. For Alan that is. I think I've got to work and can't get out of it. £25 down the tube. I think I'd have spanked him as well.

Might not have won the match, but Alan would enjoy being spanked.

Actionman/8balltiger- Are you still as confident about having a full team for Yarmouth?

Why? Are clampers doing the rounds?:P

The usual suspects for no-shows were missing on Sunday, I foresee no problems regarding the 9 that were there and a couple of the others will go.
The 9 that turned up on Sunday did everything that was required of them and looked like a team as you're lads always do.
One of the MIA's can not go to GY and that may be a good thing, he has a big personality and when he drifts to a bandit or a betting shop a couple of people drift with him, thats not a criticism of the man just an indication of where a problem lies in a part of the team that is very charismatic, not a problem in Dinnington .

JW was on holiday and as we all know , he is a 100% cert for GY, he even got blamed for the tidal wave, his best practical joke to date.

Worry about your lads, they got thumped by a depleted side of old men nd bit part players :D

I don't have to worry about my team, they just do enough. And none of us have played very much since the end of the season. In fact, most of them haven't picked up a cue for 2 months. So the dodgy form was expected. We'll be up and running by Yarmouth.

And where did the thumping appear? I remember you beating us 10-8. But that's cos I'm useless and wasn't sure of which end of the cue to hold. Not really a thumping.

donnydog
07-08-2008, 23:40

Springfield 3 0 0 3 14
Barnsley 1 0 1 0 10

Punchbowl-03 02 00 01 40
Barnsley---02 00 01 01 15

I believe those to be the scores on the doors, Deputy Dog. i don't think even with the refereeing "skills" of Barnsley , that our sides will be caught.

We have the same old faces out. Looking forward to it. Let me know when a few of you are on holiday and I'll arrange it then.:D

I was surprised that either of us had a qualifier to play though. I thought we would have got straight through, with all the paperwork I had to put in. It's a shame that we have to play now. There can't be any hotter teams in the area than our 2. (sounds a bit arrogant, but as Ali said, "It's not bragging, if you can back it up.")

It will be the finals loss when one of us goes out.

i'm beginning to think this intlge is a waste of time. Firstly you wait around 3hrs to play 2 frames. Then people expect you to dish after being sat for 2hrs. Then you lose to spozziness, when in a proper singles match you'd win 90% of the time.matches get cancelled, teams turn up short or understrengh. Teams drop out and then the commitee don't have the foresight to adjust the fixtures! Finally it doesn't start til may when best feb at the latest cos' of summer hols etc. Ps. C of C match is being played at 6pm Sunday 28th Sept.

As for Inter League, why don't you run it. Sharon has asked for someone to help her for the last 2 years. Ideal opportunity for you to get things right.

It always make me slightly cross when people criticise things, but never actually run anything themselves. They just turn up, play and **** off, moaning that things aren't being run right. That is just not right. If you don't run things, you have no rights whatsoever imo. Whingers wouldn't even get a vote at the AGM unless they took some responsibility for one aspect of something if I had anything to do with it.

I've had my go. Sharons had her go. I suggest it's your turn.:rant:

In fact, when I see Sharon next, I'll tell her that you've volunteered to run it next year.

You don't need a PC. You could do it on a sheet of paper. You just need to have the tatties to do it and accept the criticism that people level at you, when they can't be bothered to do **** all themselves.

You should not criticise if you won't do things yourself.

Ok. I might be being harsh. It's one of my pet hates though. They're ideas for someone else to do. You just turn up and play. go home and then have some more ideas. For someone else to run. I'll bet you don't even take the football card round.

Have you ever run a team for a full season, league or proper KO. (Games of killer, don't count.) If you have, I'll behave.

Well.. I was captain of the domino pool team 1990 in the netherthorpe lge. I picked the team, did subs, footie cards, stats and attended meetings. On 2pts win we ended up winning the lge by 12pts which was unheard of back then, cos' 90% of games were tough!. In fairness Vince has run it before.

The problems with our Interleague that I can see are that the Interleague should miss out the summer, being small it could miss summer completely.

the k.o should in my opinion be run earlier as the finals are played 6 month earlier than the Interleague.

the league is too small (nothing can be done about this at all)

no re-arranging of games at all. (helped by having matches out of the holiday season).

Our Interleague is a joke compared to other leagues, and that is solely down to local players being any of a number of reasons; lazy, selfish, unwilling to learn, quitters, non-triers etc and no amount of organisation is going to alter that.

Local league players are mainly unwilling to learn cheating rules, I mean World rules and others just assume that they aren't good enough and probably unwilling to have a crack.

My local league tried to get an IL team going but hit a brick wall because the pub that tried to run it was hated by everyone else in the league, other players didn't want to play world rules or travel.

It saddens me to say that us serious pool players are in a minority

I ran it for 2 years. It's a thankless task.

I also run my league. I also help run a sports section at work, and fishing matches. I also run golf days. I also run my interleague team.

I think I do enough.

It is nice for someone to have a go back though. Alans too nice and I'm trying to get him to have a chunter.

Thank you.

Alan was right in his original post. I'm just playing devils advocate. I'll stop now.

Craig is also right. I love the rules, but when we changed our league to them, we went down to 6 teams at one point. Now we're back up to 14, after changing back to old EPA. No-one was willing to learn them and most players round here, get a nose bleed when they cross the M1 into Sheffield. Let alone going to Barnsley or Yarmouth. And a lot of them have the mind set that when they "gu t'pub, tha drinks till tha sick." Otherwise, what's the point? Driving to a pub, playing pool, driving home and still being coherent just does not happen for some. I think that's part of the problem throughout S.Yorks.

After playing on the mint tables at Pheonix, I came home and ripped the cloth off mine. I couldn't believe the amount of glue under the cloth. No wonder it had a couple of annoying roll offs from being new. Cleaned it all off and re-clothed it with Strachan 6811 gold. Being careful not to get glue on the slate.

Amazing difference. As straight as a straight thing. I can only blame myself now.

Maybe drink driving laws should be abolished in South Yorkshire.
Pool players are better at everything after a few pints.:P

The biggest problem is that people just aren't willing to learn and try, just want to keep things as they are because effort is really just a pain in the rear.

I didn't rip it. Although with the ability I've shown recently, it could be expected.

The cloth was obviously put on late one Friday afternoon in a rush. I didn't expect what I found. There's no wonder some tables roll all over the place with the amount of glue they use.

Some white spirit and a spare hour cured that. The ball-acher was, I was just giving the slate a final wipe when the Khan fight started. I thought, I'll just finish this and Doh! the fight was over.

It's decent Al , good value for money. I'm not going on it unless the cashflow improves personally and I'm not going to move heaven and earth to go on next years.

The novelty of it has worn off a little for me, and I also don't like some of the alterations that are and have been made in regards to the PPP events.

Overall I would recommend the tour to people as it's value at £135 for 5 events and a shirt, and I would expect you to cover your costs , and the majority of entrants are good lads, even the Dinnington lads take off their Interleague masks:D

sass1989
08-09-2008, 12:05
I think it is good value if you get a car full of mates going each time. We will have 5 of our interleague team going next year so we will alll drive once, make a full day of it, split the money, have a ruby etc so its good crack.
If you played for an interleague team that didn't know one another's second names and weren't "really" mates, then you might end up as a taxi service which then makes it not good value.
You would make money Al I'm sure of that.
Joking aside, the tables were mint at Eastwood, as good as I've played on-really impressed with them.

Knowledge so far is Clacton is Michael Puntscharts team, so will probably contain the Keeble's and Twomey, and I think we'll be happy to take a Leek.

Medway are Babs Taylors side, we played them in last years KO cup, according to UK8ball sources , they have added players from the fairly succesful Rochester side, and Normans Elite ( is that Barnsley speak for Calling Norman a lamp?) contains Kev Holland, a trip onto Dishers or Northwich site should provide more information, as we know from the PPT, some handy players from that neck of the woods.

I think we both have tough draws but should both be able to get through with a bit of fight

Hello people, I was bored, so thought I'd try to find out about this "punchbowl side" and found this site. I am a Clacton player, you are right about Punchy being in our team but its not the team you've mentioned, he now plays for an Essex team instead of a suffolk team which is how it should be as he lives in essex. So, are there any supertars in the Punchbowl team ? are they any good ?

nah, no superstars like Punchy, you nosey sod :D

1 pro (John Waller) and a collection of county players which means very little as we don't have a good county side, we are gutted that we are on table 22 as its a fight to the bar from there.

The Leek B side intrigues me as it's a tough region to get through with the likes of Trent Trophies A and B in there.

It should be a close group as all 3 sides appear to be by short of superstars but by no means mugs, may the best side win ( if not, then may it be us).

I've been giddy about it for a while now and just waiting for Tom Fahy's overview to really whet the appetite

If Punchy is our superstar we are in big trouble, He's a "fat mug with no arse" (his words not mine) we won't have our strongest side as our two snooker pros won't be coming,we do have Darren Collison an ex-pool pro,and a couple of county players,I'm an ex county player but my sell-by has expired and I have trouble getting in the bath, let alone a county team. Both Leek B and Punchbowl look to be in parts of the country that are very strong for pool, so we could be on a boat back down the coast fairly soon.not too worried about that as long its a good weekend

Good afternoon and welcome Mick, shouldn't you be busy practicing for the club open?

I hope you will be leaving those Hawaiian shirts of yours at home in October

MM, I only said that Punchy was a superstar, I never mentioned his pool ability.
I'll have to lock the girlfriend in the caravan but take his autograph back for her

Trouble getting in the bath isn't a problem for our lads, most now have home helps, we are travelling down on a bus supplied by the Royal Variety Club , insured by Saga and we are negotiating sponsorship from Werthers. Maybe you would like to go on the pull on the Saturday night with our lads at the Gala Bingo, we are a friendly bunch.

We played Barnsley in the interleague today, winning 14-4. Anyone have an up to date table to add it to.

Come on tiger. You're normally on the ball.

NB. Disclaimer: I did not say you are normal. Nor did I infer it in any way shape or form.

I would rather be me than you, Old Bean.

A good score for both our sides, the little ray of hope that Barnsley have , should surely have been killed off.
Any news Deadly, on the postponement of Circle/Springfield v Barnsley? I'm guessing they only play home games as the combine harvesters eat juice at an alarming rate

Tame reply tiger. Must do better. Here's some bait.

Barnsley are done for, but expect to get to Yarmouth when your team don't show.

2 horse race now. Us, and whoever can get 9 players to pay their lodgings up front.:D

Tonights match against the Nelson was steeped in tales of bad luck. In the regional qualifier for the Champion of Champions an 8-1 victory didn't tell the full story. In all fairness. we should have won 8-0! Carsy is dropped, the choker.:D

What do you expect from a team of 40+ average age zimmers. Oh well i can reminse about my england caps, 30 + singles titles, bapto, laurels, and intlge x2 winners medals and lost ponytails

Alan, we all know you're great. You're just playing in the wrong league and with the wrong team to do yourself justice. You know that.

Our team has a good blend of experience and youth at the moment. I have a young man of about 15/16yrs of age in this area who I'm going to try and get into the team over the next couple of years. He's a budding snooker superstar, but when he hits the crumpet/beer barrier, he might just be the next big thing at pool.

Watch this space.

I was just discussing your game and shot options with Glen. You missed a trick really. Singo saw a shot combo that would have won you the game, but clearly you didn't see it. Fortunately.

Malc did very well though. Great shot to get the black out.
