My grandchildren asked me to take them to Ponds Forge so that they could go on the flume ride in the leisure pool. Several times in the past the slide has not been available and I have found outonly when I got there. Yesterday I rang in the evening and was told the slide would be on. I rang again at 9.30am today and again at 11.00 - I was told the slide would be manned. ~The children were very excited and we all went at 11.30am. Guess what! No staff available to monitor the slide due to sickness. The first manager I spoke to was very sympathetic and he called his manager - who took the view that there was nothing he could do if staff didn't turn up. I was offered a refund, but since we were all in the water, I refused.
Might an overall of the staffing arrangements be made to ensure that this public pool is fully staffed, particularly during school holidays and bad weather conditions. I would prefer to pay a litle more to ensure that corners are not cut and the facilities always available, except in exteme emergencies. Its the children who miss out when parents and grandparents re trying to build their confidence and take advantage of the facilities set up by public funding for the public.
