Talk about tramps/winos and the blonde haired lady reminded me of the 'hole in the road man'. You would have to be quite old and to have lived in Sheffield a long time to remember him.
He was a down and out who I believe lived in the hole in the road (i.e. the underpass with the fish tanks) in the city centre in the 1970s. He was a pleasant, non-aggressive guy who seemed to keep himself to himself. I think people from shops in the area used to give him food. We had a very hard winter one year in the mid to late 1970s and he was found frozen to death. If I remember rightly, the 'Star' did a story on him afterwards.
