Owls call off Brunt negotiations
Brunt said in June he was happy to stay at Hillsborough
Sheffield Wednesday have called off negotiations with Chris Brunt over a new deal, reports BBC Radio Sheffield.
The Northern Ireland international, 22, only has a year left on his contract and was in talks after the Owls rejected a bid from Fulham in June.
But negotiations have broken down between Brunt and the Hillsborough club due to his excessive wage demands.
Meanwhile, USA defender Frankie Simek has signed a new deal that will take him through until 2010.
Oh dear....it looks like we might be set to lose our best player.
Typical Sheffield Wednesday.....if he isn't going to sign lets get some money for him then at least. :(
I hate being a Wednesday fan most of the time!

(Good news about Simek staying though!)
Robbie Loving 26-07-2007, 16:13 Good news on the Simek front, but I fear for you keeping hold of you Chrissy
bladesufc1 26-07-2007, 16:20 i really dont see how SWFC can be in with a chance of getting anywhere near the top 6 this season  bottom 6 maybe

We might be looking over our shoulders but we aren't talking out of our arse! :D

I cannot understand the Owls chairman is he that stupid to risk loosing his best player,to tell you the truth I would love him to come to the Lane he is a real quality player.
lakerman 26-07-2007, 20:33 I'm getting worried now. Takeover talks fell through, Brunty won't sign another contract, offer for Rasiak now withdrawn, Kluivert not interested, the only new faces are all freebies and a smaller squad than we had last season. It doesn't look good does it? I think we are looking at mid table at best.
Please make me eat my words Wednesday, Please please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We ended last season on a massive high, confident that we could beat the likes of Ipswich Norwich Coventry and other teams of a similar standing.
What a difference a summer makes, lost our top scorer, our prize asset won`t sign a new contract, fans arguing with fans, fans arguing with the chairman and a lack of quality signings.
If we were to face the fore mentioned teams I would not be confident of a result. Could be a long hard season.

That'd be a kick in the teeth....he wouldn't be the first Irishman to switch teams in Sheffield though :(
Can't see him moving across the divide. He wants Premiership football and deserves Premiership football as he's far too good to be playing in the Championship.
Seeing as though he's only got a year left, I think we'd be lucky to get £1.5m for him, whereas I think it should be closer to double that, if that's what Fulham paid for LC.
Maybe we'll get £6m out of Keano. :hihi:
Stockers 27-07-2007, 07:52 Glenn Whelan is off to Reading by the sound of things.
Weren't Whelan and Brunt both players that were booed by fans earlier in the season? I don't think they owe the club or fans anything so fair play to them if they have ambitions above what Wednesday can offer them (which in all fariness isn't much!!!)
freyasdad 27-07-2007, 15:47 Rats and sinking come to mind fellas, not good.
Oh dear....we are in trouble
Robbie Loving 27-07-2007, 16:06 Can't see him moving across the divide. He wants Premiership football and deserves Premiership football as he's far too good to be playing in the Championship.
He has had one good season, he will get a chance at prem level, of that I have no doubt.
But I see him playing out this season and seeing his options then.
That's what KW (Kaven Walker) seems to have suggested Robbie.
But we could very well have an unhappy player in the camp who wants to move. If that is the case, i'd sooner see him sold now.
Terrific player when he wants to be. BL (Brian Laws) seems to be getting the best out of him.
Robbie Loving 28-07-2007, 08:54 BRUNTY BLADE
Has a bit of a ring to it :D
Would also please my mate who is actually called Chris Brunt and is a blade.
Fulham have come back in with a £2m bid apparently.
We should accept that, but see if we can get maybe a 10% future fee guarantee.
If we can't, still accept it.
Can't see him going to Uniturd. Brunty blunt does sound good and I'm sure more rhyming slang would also follow. :hihi: He will go to a premiership team in the near future as I can't see him staying at hillsborough. He didn't start tonight for a start which sends signals out that Laws is planning without him. Looks like that plan didn't work too well though! Hopefully Wednesday will cash in on him now as obviously his heart is not with Wednesday.
Judging by our second half performance a lot of our players' hearts are currently not with Wednesday...:(
Whelan and Brunt will be gone before the first game of the season. Guaranteed.
freyasdad 29-07-2007, 08:33 Top six finish then i pressume?

Take over...no
new players.... no
money to spend.... no
players want to leave..... yes.
so whats new....??????
nothing.
discodown 29-07-2007, 09:14 You're dismissing Wednesdays chances before the first ball is kicked.
Its time to be realistic for a while. Wednesday are now a selling club and will be until the debts are clear. theres no shame in that its just a fact of economics.
If Brunt wants to go then let him. You can't blame him for being ambitious and wanting the challenge. Get some cash for him and chuck a sell on clause onto the deal and you'll be fine.
Right now what wednesday need to do is get the academy going again, I honestly believe thats why they brought in BL, he knows how to bring people through and clear debt, he did it at Scunthorpe and look at them now, they're punching well above their weight.
It must be frustrating to be a Wednesday fan right now but patience is the key. Its not over yet, its barely begun. My prediction for them this season is a top 8 finish. You don't need big name players or millions in wages, what you need is organised, simple football and thats what you'll do all season, you'll have a fairly settled side that will compete with anyone. Take heart. It could be worse.

Calming words....we appreciate that!
Agent Gypo 29-07-2007, 18:09 It isn't all doom and gloom. United have had similar situations in the past where we've sold any player who looks like he might be half decent, and we're doing ok now.
I know there are a lot more factors to consider, but it could be a lot worse. There'd be far more cause for concern if you were still stuck in League One.
A top 8 finish is something I think is out of your reach, and you're going to have to endure a few more seasons of mediocrity, but cheer up, you could be Leeds...

Oh dear Disco, That could be a long ,long time :help:
freyasdad 29-07-2007, 18:54 Is the debt thay Wednesday have comparible to what dirty L--ds have?
My first thought is that the figuers aren't that far apart and if that is the case then i agree with what someone has put earlier it will a hard slog.

.
If Leeds pay the debts of 8p per pound then their debts will be cleared to around 500k,

They don't own their ground though!
discodown 30-07-2007, 19:06 Oh dear Disco, That could be a long ,long time :help:Maybe, the point is that with sound financial management thay can get out of the situation they are in
freyasdad 30-07-2007, 22:13 I will clarify then with the current debt in to the tens of millions then there is only one real solution and that is someone who is prepared to throw a lot of money to Wednesday.

Buying wednesday would be like chucking money away...You are 30 million poorer before you even start.
Now I am not a rocket scientist by any stretch but, why would any smart business man wanna throw his hard earned money away like that ?
Keep hearing of these takeovers every other day and then SILENCE, Is that from when they see the books and the debt is even worse than wednesdatites are led to believe ?
dead right matey. it could be worse imagine if you were a l££ds fan . god forbid.:)
By going into Admin and paying their creditors souch a paltry amount, Leeds have effectively written off 92% of their debt.... IF they are allowed to get away with it.
Assuming they do, they will now be in a far better financial position, than we are with a clean slate.
CorkerSWFC 31-07-2007, 13:26 Doesn't Ken Bates owe half of Leeds money though?
Robbie Loving 31-07-2007, 13:51 Chris Brunt has been spotted at Bramall Lane, FACT
Doesn't Ken Bates owe half of Leeds money though?
I didn't think so; but If he does; who is going to get it out of him now, and how ?
Leeds is likely to be a completely different organisation now, even though it is the same man in charge..

Well he managed to get Chelsea in to £80 million of debt AFTER he had swindled debts in past, so its not looking good Leeds
freyasdad 01-08-2007, 14:10 From what i can gather from last season the banks loaning money to Wednesday told the board they had to sell 18,000 season tickets every season to maintain the loans.
I dont know the exact consequences of this but i would imagine the banks are a little nervous at the moment and have probably had words with Allen already.

Bates not only got Chelsea in debt he sold there ground. If it wasn't for Matthew Harding saving the club they'd probably still have that owd 3 wheeler parked on the edge of the pitch!!
Robbie Loving 01-08-2007, 14:31 Freaysdad, I believe it is 9,000 ST sales to cover the interest alone,
