Hi,
does anyone know the history of this house? I used to work there in the eighties when it was council run home for the elderly. It was closed and sold and I'm not sure what became of it after that.
It was a gorgeous old house and I would love to look round it again.
Have searched on the net and can't find any pictures of it at all.
I think it once belonged to a former steel magnate but I could be mistaken.

hope you can help!

thanks, Karen

It became more grandly known as 'Parkhead Hall' when Stephen Hinchcliffe bought it to run his empire from.

Since taken back by the bank and sold to a man who makes tow-bars for conversion back to a private house. He and his wife seemed to enjoy having their pics in the papers with stories about what they are going to do to it. :suspect:

Hinchcliffe had double anti-bandit / security doors installed to his own office that could only be opened from inside. Obviously had security and privacy issues eh?

Thanks for that info Tony.
Do you know the name of the guy who now plans to turn it back into a private house? Were the articles in the papers about him in The Star or Sheffield Telegraph?

thanks

Does anyone else have any connection with Parkhead? Any old employees of the council when it was a home for the elderly and run by Jean and Alec Swanston?

Well you wouldn't want any old riff-raff just walking in...Fraud Squad, Inland Revenue, Customs and Excise, car lease companies etc

I live in greystones, so I know parkhead reasonably well.

I always wondered what it was before a rest home.

Parkhead House was the HQ of No 33 Group RAF from July 1940 to September 1944. The Group was responsible for all barrage balloons and associated sites in the industrial midlands of England

Hi There

I was looking at threads about Parkhead, I used to work in a pub up that way called The Wheatsheaf. It was run by a guy called Tony. I just wondered if the pub was still there and the cricket pitch at the side of it???

cheers

Have clicked on the link for these pics and they don't work. The thread is some years old but I'd love to see the photos of this house again.

Where did you get the link from Strix, can you remember?

thanks.:D
