View Full Version : Genesis Fans Jon 17-12-2004, 23:52  any fans of Genesis out there who liked the cd duke? and loved the early stufff with Peter Gagriel? or just me lol pickety-witch 17-12-2004, 23:56 i love the song follow you follow me and i like invisible touch ive just got the new album its great:) JoeP 18-12-2004, 06:25 My favourites have to be : Selling England by the Pound - 'Aisle of Plenty' / 'I know what I like' Trespass - for 'The Knife' Foxtrot - for 'Supper's Ready' After Gabriel left I lost interest - I'm a big fan of PGs solo stuff, and love Steve Hackett and Mike Rutherford's 'Mike and the Mechanics' projects. The latter's 'The Living Years' is one of those songs that can still make me cry. Joe WallBuilder 18-12-2004, 13:13 You can often find me bopping about the house to 'Dance of the giant hogweed' or 'Trick of the tail', so I suppose I'll put my hand up to being a Genesis fan. I also like a lot of the solo stuff which Joe has mentioned. Went off them a bit as Phil Collins started to influence there sound and thought for a while they were Phil Collins and his backing band as they seemed to loose the Genesis sound. As a result have most of their early stuff and only buy things like Duke when I see them in Record Collector at cheapo prices. Listening to old Genesis nowadays reminds me of my wild youth [well slightly wild] uncleheed 18-12-2004, 17:52 Always been a big fan.One of the greatest gigs i've been to(for sheer spectacle) was the we cant dance gig at Roundhay Park in 1993(ish). Three hours of bliss, and a 25 minute medley of classics that blew me away. coopster1974 20-12-2004, 16:25 Ah Duke - Driving to work with Duchess on full whack - sheer bliss. And Bluebells (I think) cant remember which album but again another perfect song to drive and sing away to. moodi_doodi 18-05-2006, 17:45 Fans of Genesis and Steve Hackett might be interested in this: The John Hackett Band at The Boardwalk this Sat May 20th. John is Steve's brother and has just returned from a major USA tour with Steve's acoustic trio. Now his new rock band plays his current home town (yes Sheffield) before London's Astoria next week. The show features classic Hackett tracks and much new material. Rumour has it Steve is unofficially playing some numbers at these gigs. GO TO JOHNHACKETT.COM for more details! sufc_tom 18-05-2006, 17:51 Jesus He Knows me is their best track in my opinon...was that on Duke? moodi_doodi 18-05-2006, 18:25 No, Jesus is from 'We Can't Dance'. Best one on Duke has to be Turn it On Again'. My fave Genesis tho is the early 'Foxtrot'... Pritt Stick 18-05-2006, 18:39 Oh Foxtrot and that Live Album are just hunky dory (a Tokyo thoroughfare btw that is famous for being a chilled out place). The Lamb Lies Down is pretty good too. Duke has some beauties on it too - and how about 'Home By The Sea' on that later album - a belter. BasilRathbon 19-05-2006, 09:28 Always had mixed feelings about Genesis - loved the music they did in the mid seventies, hated much of the mid-eighties chart-friendly MOR fodder they subsequently went on to do. Favourite album - "Wind & Wuthering", first one they did after Gabriel left and Phil Collins took over as singer. One of the great lost classics..... moodi_doodi 23-05-2006, 11:52 Wow - Steve Hackett joined the band on stage at the Boardwalk Saturday, as rumoured, and it was truly superb. Maybe best guitar solo I've ever seen. He stayed for three tracks. The gig was top stuff, plenty of early Hackett stuff too as well as John's new album 'Checking Out of London' (Rare and Racy have it btw). I was lucky enought to be commissioned to film - watch out at www.johnhackett.com for clips soon. TimmyR 23-05-2006, 12:10 theres an interesting chapter in American Psycho about the works of genesis. Thats the beauty of the book over the film. I like genesis Mathom 23-05-2006, 14:28 Oh god, one of my secret vices revealed...Genesis! I am now listening to Selling England - More Fool Me... Marvellous. It makes me want to read some Tolkien. ;) The only Collins era stuff I particularly like is Follow You and Abacab, which still have that noodly, twiddly 70s feel. Agent Gypo 23-05-2006, 14:31 Patrick Bateman listens to Genesis in American Psycho while brutalising two prostitutes with a chisel and coathanger. Phil Collins' drivel has driven many to such terrible crimes. gabby 27-05-2006, 14:46 Has anyone got or heard the Genesis Archive box set? Its got 'the lamb lies down on broadway' performed live in its entirity. Amazin. |
