Had a phone call yesterday from a company called "allumia"(sp)who do cavity wall & loft insulation. They are apparently part of a government scheme to cut down on global warming. They asked me various questions about the house,my age,my youngest sons age(?) to see if I qualified for the government grant,to which I do.I asked what do I have to pay & they said no payment was needed by me.Seemed ok so far until they said the company who would do the work would ring later to check my details & would also like my sons child benefit number .Sounds well dodgy to me.Anybody else had a call from this company ?
be careful. see www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/home_improvements/ before you do anything. There is a link to "grants in your area"

I've had cavity wall insulation done free but they didn't ask for benefit number. Wasn't same company though. Just had to sign a declaration that I was in receipt of the right benefit. I would check on them. Doesn't seem right to me.

We had our cavity wall insulation done by Crump and Son at killamarsh , we didnt get it free because we work but we did get it greatly reduce because we were helping cut down on Global warming . Our neighbor told us about the scheme , she got hers free but no one asked for her kids benefit numbers , they did need to know what benefits she was on but didnt take any numbers whatsoever .
If you are interested in having it done use Crump and son , they were brilliant , and totally cleaned up after themselves .We noticed a big difference in the warmth of the house straight away , we had to have our heating on about 4 to keep warm before , but after we only had to have it on 1 and sometimes we turned it off cos it got too warm ! so our heating bills also went down by quite alot !!
