Right, I'm off down to the Blood Donation centre and just wanted to remind everyone who is able to give blood to get their a**es down there too!

Stocks tend to run low over the Xmas period, so now is a good time to do it. It could be the best Xmas present you ever give!:)

Cheers

Good on ya  I've tried many times to get people from the forum down to the donation centre, but never had any luck. I made my donation last week so I hope you manage to get a few people down there. Good luck!!!

Yay! Mission accomplished - my first ever donation and it was a doddle :) And vast supply of tea and biccies afterwards.

NO EXCUSES people - get down there if you can!!!

It would be interesting to see how many Forum members who are eligible to donate do and also why those that don't, don't.

P.S. Well done Dick Dastardly

You should start a poll pussycat!
I donated about 2 weeks ago, it's so easy to do especially with donation centre right in city centre. Also on bone marrow donor regsiter, but kind of hoping will never be needed.
Stocks also down due to some regular donors who have received blood transfusions in the past not being able to give blood. And they always ask for more donations from people from ethinic minorities... so get down there!!!

Pussycat, maybe we should work towards a forum session at the blood centre. I bet if we flog this one out we'd get a few people on board and make a huge contribution.

I've been due to go for a few weeks but seem to have had one cold after another lately - I've got the most irratating sore throat at the moment feel as though something is stuck but I agree with the others more people should go. There really is nothing to it I've been 26 times now so know only too well how easy it is.

I would be more than happy to donate some blood, but I don't know where to go. Could somebody here explain where you go. And by that, I mean the exact address, and if you need to not drink for a day before, or something. I have never seen anywhere to go and would be happy to do it. Can I pop into town in my lunch hour and do it?

Try this page:

http://www.sheffield.nhs.uk/blood/donortimes.php

The address is:

Sheffield Blood Donor Centre
Cathedral Court
Church Street
Sheffield S1 2GN

Has links to maps, and instructions for donors. Took about 90 minutes for me - gets a little busier at lunchtimes but any reasonable boss would give you a bit of leeway if you were giving blood surely?! :D

Good luck!

Someone mention a SF meet up and blood giving session.

I'll do that! Who would organise it though?

I would like to give blood but I can't due to a slight genetic trait I have, so sorry peeps, you'll have to count me out of the Sheffield Forum meet up :(

It does take about 90 mins the first time you go because have to fill out forms and stuff, but after that it is quicker.

You can also book an appointment now, which also speeds it up a bit.
