Hi everyone I'm seeking advice on areas in Sheffield. I'm looking for a decent area that is not too expensive but not a low income area either. Recently I've looked at 2 houses in Aston and Woodhouse and they both seemed nice and the area looked fine from the outside. Please let me know what you think of these areas and what other areas are good to look at versus what to avoid.

Depends which area of the city you need to be in.
I live in the north-west- Hillsborough is still reasonable

What exact parts of Hillsborough area are still good? I think thats the S5 area and we've checked out some places there and some where not that good such as Parsons Cross (from what we've heard and read) and Shiregreen, etc.

No, no- Hillsborough is S6, and covers Hillsborough itself, Stannington, Wadsley, and parts of lower Walkley. It is close to Parson cross, Shiregreen, but distant enough to be very different in that housing is mixed and mostly privately owned.
In Hillsborough you have lots of well maintained terrace houses, of varying size- same in Walkley, which tends to be a bit more expensive due to its proximity to the University.
Stannington tends to be a mix of old 'villagy' type houses in the village itself, and newer estates on the edge some with lovely views out to the peak- lower down there are more council owned estates.
Wadsley is more 1930 type semis mixed with some older properties, and some council housing in Wisewood, again very good for access to the peak and some good walking country, whilst also being handy for Hillsborough and the city!
Hope this helps.

Yes that does help, thanks jomarch. I'm new to the UK and just learning everything so this does help. Can you recommend any good agents that are selling properties in that area for a reasonable price? Unfortunately they can only use my husbands income and not mine since i'm too new to the area so we can get something around the £100,000-£110,000 range for now.

If you are looking for a small two bedroom house then you may find something in S6 for that price. I suggest you search Sheffield estate agents on the internet, as most have web-sites and that will give you an idea about prices.
There are lots of agents, I used Winkworths when I moved four years ago and they seemed fine.
If you are looking for something for just two people have you thought about the new apartment developments that are springing up all over the place?
I'm not sure you would get something in that price range, though you could rent until you have found something you would really like to buy.
There are still areas of Sheffield where you could find a house for that price, but there are no guarantees in the housing game.
Sheffield is good city to live in and despite the recent floods, has a good future ahead!
I wish you luck in finding a place and a happy time in this great city!!

Recently I've looked at 2 houses in Aston and Woodfield and they both seemed nice and the area looked fine from the outside.

When you say 'Woodfield', don't you mean Woodhouse?

There are good and bad parts to all areas in Sheffield. Generally most council estates are not brilliant but even on some of the worst ones there are streets that aren't that bad.

I live in Woodhouse and have done for many years and I think it's a lovely place, especially the areas that aren't council such as Woodhouse Mill and areas around Woodhouse Village (where the shopping centre is). It is also good because it's near to lots of green open spaces such as Treeton Dyke and Beighton Marsh (it's not far from Rother Valley Country Park either).

I think it all depends on the individual and what there likes and dislikes are for an area really.
