Does anyone know what this means? Thank you in anticipation! :-) Angel x

Next time it happens make a note of the exact error message and paste this into a google query. You never know, someone else may have had the same experience and posted it somewhere on the internet.

Alternatively, go to:

http://www.windowsxpuser.com/forums/index.php

and pose your query there.

Memory cannot be written ... memory locations along lines of 0x77 etc etc (usual hex error message) ... if there are 2 0x numbers mentioned and both have 7's in 'em (sorry I'm not so sad as to memorise 'em) then you are either ruinning Norton anti virus or (and the second is more likely) your inbox/outbox have become corrupt.
To fix this ;
- make sure there is nothing in inbox or outbox or it will be lost. (ie move any mails in these folders to another folder)
- with OE closed, search for inbox.dbx and outbox.dbx (one at a time). In the search 'advanced options' you will need to tick search hidden files and folders.
- Delete both files. When you next open OE a new inbox and a new outbox will be created. If this does not help then update NAV as this can cause similar errors.

Hope this helps. Oh, and don't forget to curse Bill Gates and throw blessed rice over the PC as this often helps.:)

As a last resort you could reinstall OE6.

It tells you how to do it here (http://www.tweakxp.com/display.aspx?id=1345). I havn't tried it myself though but i have used other tips from the site and they have all worked.

Good luck:?

Press that window key and E at the same time

Go into Windows Explorer, "Tools" menu and click the "View" tab. Check "See hidden files and folders" and try again.

What you are omitting to mention is that if you simply delete the inbox then you will lose all emails that are in there.

Best way is to start PC in safe mode, then open OE6, create a subfolder called something like 'backup' then copy the contents of the inbox into this folder.

The do the search and rename the folder from inbox.dbx to inbox.old

That way if you haven't got a back up of the inbox (which most ppl won't have) you don't lose everything

Does Oe6 log or try to log you into windows messenger this can sometime cause this problem if so goto tools - options remove tick from automatically log onto windows messenger (or something like that) close restart pc and try again

I'm sure angel appreciates all your help but as her (his?) last post on here was September 2003 I'm guessing it's all falling on deaf ears.

Nice responses though.

The thread appeared on the 'view new posts' so it didn't seem to need the dates checking.

Oh well the inbox would be extremely full after nearly 2 years...lol

Dump outlook, use Mozilla Thunderbird Mailbox - hassle free over last 10 months.

Slightly different, till you get use to the quirks, but also better protection against virus's. Same goes for Mozilla Firefox browser!
