Ok, I've been thinking. I'm spending some time of here lateley as I moved to Heanor from Sheffield about a year ago due to meeting someone down here. Still work in Sheff but not through choice as the commuting is a little expensive and tiring. I was wondering who else has moved away, why, what you think of where you are and your main objectives of being on here!

To expand on me: Heanor is just a small town, and it's clusters of small towns out here with Nottingham and Derby 10 miles away. I have fondly adopted Derby as my town though as that is where most of her family come from. I like the countryside out here but you do need a car. Towns are almost like suburbs! It's cleaner too!!

...But I love my roots and proud to be Sheffield, come on here to keep up as I go back monthly (work by meadowhall coming in of M1J34 so it's not like I'm even going to Sheffield all the time!) and see new buildings, buinesses and stuff changing. What makes it wierder is coming to work in sheff everyday but not really going anywhere near it due to working off junction 34 so it's like I'm just at work near the M1 and would be a lot different working in the town centre....

Babbling now so will let you all have a say....

I know just how you feel! we moved to Scarborough to retire, it's most certainly cleaner than Sheffield, and like Sheffield, is surrounded by lovely countryside, but I can still get quite nostalgic about my roots, sadly, when we visit family in Sheffield it always seems to be a little more jaded than last time. Sheffield seems to have an identity crisis, not knowing just what it wants to be, it seems that since the days of "steel city" it is looking for some other identity but not sure what.
I hope things go well for my old city, I still love it, but feel that at times it would be nice to take the council by the scruff of the neck and give them a good shake! Anybody else feel the same?

They need far more than a good shake.

Hi NJMUK

you live just up the road from me then....
I know what you mean about the comute to and from sheffield being tiring, i did it for almost 3 years, i moved because i met someone, and i do miss sheffield a heck of a lot, every time you go back somethings different. One of the best things i did was find this forum, now i just wish i could get a decent fishcake once in a while... oh well...
