In fact it a " burning" issue !! :D geckoqueen 23-07-2007, 14:16 I live nearby and a few people have made the same comment. Who'd have though a sign could get everyone so 'fired up'? (I'll get my coat). On a slightly more serious note - it is a beautiful cemetery, I am lucky enough to see it from my bedroom window, and hope that as many people as possible come along for the day and see the monuments. Not so long ago I tried to launch a Friends of City Road Cemetery group with limited success. Hopefuly this will generate more interest in the space and ensure it retains its beauty. trevortoupes 23-07-2007, 14:20 Im told thats the dead centre of sheffield. sarah2007 23-07-2007, 14:39 ha ha , its supposed to be dead nice there though, poeple are dying to get in ! Crematorium open 10am-4pm. everybody welcome. This set me up for the day I thought it was hilarious.:hihi::hihi: On the subject of the above, it has just reminded me of an advert for a forthcoming film(yes I know it's a different subject, but has the same relevance with how the wording was put). The film is Evan Almighty, and it was recently advertised at the Brightside Lane/Hawke Street junction, as "flooding into cinemas, August(can't remember the date). After what that area suffered a few weeks ago,it didn't seem appropriate wording. I like the City Road Cemetry sign. Sometimes I don't think people realise whatthey have put until it's too late geckoqueen 04-08-2007, 15:50 The open day was really good. It was really interested to see what they do and the behind the scenes stuff was strangly comforting. It was respectfuly done. Its a real shame that so many grave stones and memorials are now unsafe but they're doing a good job making the best of a bad situation. We looked specifically because of this thread too .............. still funny all the same. *Smiles* Angi ShinyPurple 04-08-2007, 17:58 You do realise that it is the one work place where customers are allowed to smoke indoors :hihi: geckoqueen 04-08-2007, 19:27 You do realise that it is the one work place where customers are allowed to smoke indoors :hihi: The room where they do the cremations actually has a 'smoking prohibited' sign, made me giggle. I asked if the employees had to do a mass exodus if someone puts cigarettes in the coffin exmrbd 05-08-2007, 00:29 You lot are digging you own grave with these jokes :hihi: satman2222 05-08-2007, 01:01 Will they be having another open day? Timewarper 11-08-2007, 19:44 On a similar note, but in Rotherham, there used to be a sign on the run up to the mortuary, which was (and might still be) situated towards the chest clinic at the back of the main hospital building. It read: "Morgue - Dead Slow!" Always appealed to my rather strange sense of humour when I saw it! Waltheof 11-08-2007, 20:06 Someone made a monumental mistake posting all those ghastly puns!! MonkeyLover 11-08-2007, 21:11 C'mon now, lets be deadly serious - you wouldn't be laughing if YOU were dead, would you? |
