Pugsley 23-07-2007, 13:22 something that isn't the same as the last dish just wrapped in a different way.... I know its an ignorant comment, but that is my point, surely their is more to Mexico than what some current establishments offer. I have a Mexican cook book at home, never heard of half the dishes or ingrediants!! Would be well up for somewhere that was offering a well rounded menu to feast my well rounded belly on.... shpoolx 23-07-2007, 13:29 something that isn't the same as the last dish just wrapped in a different way.... I have a Mexican cook book at home, never heard of half the dishes or ingrediants!! Would be well up for somewhere that was offering a well rounded menu to feast my well rounded belly on.... i understand completely, it's not ignorant at all, in fact hoorah because sheffielders' will no longer accept sub standard food. as part of the mexican repertoire they have tomato, chocolate, peanuts, avacado, chillie, various beans, turkey, maize, various cheese's and much more. *Twinkle* 23-07-2007, 13:47 Mexican food is very tortilla based... Burritos, Chimichangas, Quesadilla, Fajitas, Enchiladas etc... Personally, I go mad for guacamole on nachos, with a quesadilla etc :) Mmmm think I'll make quesadilla for tea :D Bomberman 23-07-2007, 13:57 Yes, Mexican please :) EdnaKrabappe 23-07-2007, 16:00 Mexican - I like Tex mex food and think that Mexico has had to go that way TBH... when i went to Acapulco, many of the restaurants around were adopting this sort of menu. I love veggie fajitas. Like Chilli poppers. Like Corncakes. Like mole. Like guacamole. Like pretty much anything veggie. A proper Mexican restaurant, that offers the Tex mex stuff on the side would be excellent. Where is your restaurant going to be? Would you have merengue nights? And free tequila shots? (On second thoughts perhaps i am the customer you want to keep out!:o) Why did the Mexican murder his wife? Because he wanted tequila. Sorry (Borrows Mel's coat) discodown 23-07-2007, 16:43 I'll eat about as much mexican food as you push in my direction. A decent restaurant would be superb Pipine 23-07-2007, 18:17 Bring it on! I've been saying for ages we need a good Mexican restaurant.. I was hoping for something with a wide variety of food, stylish / simple surroundings.. not too expensive.. nice drinks... live music? :) I like Las Iguanas but its a bit lacking in atmosphere and the food is nice but its all a bit "chain restaurant" really. Theres definitely a gap in the market! When do you open!? Jackdanny 23-07-2007, 18:22 Las Iguanas is best. Although they are a chain restaurant it does not make 'em bad. Their Fajitas are to die for. Pipine 23-07-2007, 18:33 I didn't say it was bad. I do like the food there and I go quite often (the early lunch menu and the cocktail offers are a personal favourite!). But I think theres room for improvement, a more varied menu which has nightly or weekly specials would be nice, a more earthy feel to the restaurant perhaps (West one feels a bit like a tarted up warehouse - tho las Iguanas have some lovely features like that huge mirror and the interesting coloured glass chandelier), live music would be fun.. I'd be there all night stuffing my face with more food and more cocktails :D mr chris 23-07-2007, 20:42 A decent burrito, as I have yet to find one! Note to all the supposed "mexican" restaurants (Las Iguanas, Chiquitos...), a burrito is not just chilli in a tortilla wrap. It needs cheese, refried beans, guacamole, sour cream, rice, etc... ON THE INSIDE. Not just a dollop of guacamole on top. Everyone should take a trip to Mario's restaurant in Berkely, CA. The "Super Burrito" would feed you for several days. shpoolx 25-07-2007, 12:56 A decent burrito, as I have yet to find one! Excellent :D :D intoxicating 25-07-2007, 15:29 I miss mexican food. I'm new to England from America and mexican food is everywhere. I haven't seen many mexican restuarants out here but havent looked very hard. Can anyone recommend a proper mexican restuarant and where its located? Thanks. Also, Taco Bell is great cheap fast food and really wouldnt qualify as mexican but is there any out here in Sheffield? I haven't seen any. love_hearts 25-07-2007, 20:05 Cactus. I had it in mexico on a cornish pasty thing, but obviously not a cornish pasty, and it was well nice. libuse 25-07-2007, 20:49 Personally i'd like whoever owned/cooked in Gringos (london road, mid-late 90's) to get themselves back into the kitchen. I bloody loved that place shpoolx 25-07-2007, 22:31 Cactus. Lol, No - we haven't caught on to Taco Bell that I know of :) IMHO, I am not sure that we will... mr chris 26-07-2007, 19:45 Lol, No - we haven't caught on to Taco Bell that I know of :) IMHO, I am not sure that we will... There's one. It's on the US Military base in Cambridge (well, that area). I've only had one in my life, and I'd certainly go there again! Carcass 26-07-2007, 21:18 We need somewhere that serves mole. Mmmm....chocolate diesel... PuressenceUK 26-07-2007, 21:41 If this place does open (and good luck with it) please make sure the toilet paper is nicely chilled. maramcp 27-07-2007, 08:11 There used to be a Taco Bell in central London and one in Earls Court when I was a student (several years ago) but I think they were ahead of their time and had to 'compete' (as if) with McD etc, and didn't last long - sad. Unfortunately, Taco Bell never made it this far. I wonder if they would franchise like Subway, and then there could be half a dozen in the city centre - lol! Love using chocolate chili mole in my cooking, used to get it at Sainsburys, but no longer stock it - anyone know where I can get some more? As for the restuarant idea - bring it on - love cactus leaves in burritos, and I am feeling hungry just thinking about it. Ralphus 27-07-2007, 09:39 Huevos rancheros if you're opening for breakfast. Does anyone know of anywhere in Sheffield that does huevos rancheros? It's a good alternative to a full english breakfast during the summer. maramcp 28-07-2007, 07:39 I often rustle up some for myself, in fact... it's about that time! shpoolx 28-07-2007, 08:32 I often rustle up some for myself, in fact... it's about that time! at this time? a mexican brekkie? nutter! :hihi: chugger 28-07-2007, 08:45 [QUOTE=maramcp;2479234] . . QUOTE] Subway are actually trialing a mexican restaurant concept in the States called 'Bahia'. The publicity implies its a cross between a 'quick service restaurant' (posh Fast Food) and an authentic mexican Cantina. All the food is fast and fresh and seems to cover all the usual mexican basics but more mexican than tex-mex. Hopefully, it won't be as naff as Taco-Bell who have done to mexican food what McD's have done for real meat. To be honest I can't see a truely mexican restaurant working in Sheffield. Tex-mex will be OK (Chequitas?) but probably what ever it is it will need to be very crossover and still do chicken nuggets (urgh!) and everything with chips. It's not that there aren't people who will eat international food, just no enough of them eating it regularly enough to make it pay. If it wasn't for students during term-time my guess is that more than half the eateries in the city wouldn't last 6 months before closing with a heap of debt. shpoolx 28-07-2007, 09:29 [QUOTE=maramcp;2479234] . .
