View Full Version : Thanks to xxhunniixx we've got a new arrival...
Thanks to xxhunniixx, we are now the proud owners of a gorgeous red n white wegie boy cat named Charlie - he is a little stunner and I am so glad the other half said (without even batting an eyelid) we could have him.
Aww he is a little sweetie - about 8months old with white paws n chest and the most striking ginger tabby coat -almost certainly a wegie from his almond shaped eyes, distintive wegie nose n markings. Will post photos once he's settled in (he's upstairs exploring at the moment and getting used to his new buddies-to-be) He hasnt been introduced to the daft dobe yet but will be at the appropriate time.
He'll also be having a trip to the vets to get his bits snipped (ouch) soon - sorry Charlie, it's gotta be done.
We were expecting fun n games from our other boy cat Alfie the barmy bengal but surprisingly no fireworks - very subdued, he keeps coming downstairs to be reassured he is still number one dude...
Still can't believe other half said yes - he is usually voice of reason n all that, obviously must have a weakness when it comes to wegies (and red/ginger cats).
[Thanks xxhunniixx- you do an amazing job - I still don't know where you get the energy to keep up with all the rescues you seem to get involved with!]
xxhunniixx 22-07-2007, 20:27 aww glad hes ok i knew u wud be perfect for him hehe i have only just sat down phones unplugged mobiles on silent and now its my time lol!
good on you- from what we've witnesed you desperately need some YOU time now and again. Keep up the good work, girl xK
[PS Other half has gone upstairs to 'see if the lad will sit on his knee for a cuddle' - big softie].
ooOOOooo have to have a look the next time I come up ..lol ;)
do we get pics...........
I'd love another cat or two 'cept they make me sneeze.....:(....
cats make me cough n sneeze too- woud you believe it? I have to use a beconase and antihistamines everyday and have a houseful of air purifiers (which I wont be freecycling cos I need them so much!) Other half is asthmatic too so arent we blessed. Fortunately, he is not affected by pet fur.
Charlie is still spending his time in the attic so far - he can get out any time he wants, but doesnt seem ready to explore the rest of the house yet. I think he's mainly norwegian forest cat with maybe a tiny sprinkling of moggie- he has the wegie almond eyes, the wide wegie nose (but it's not perfectly straight like a wegie's- mind you, neither is Ashia's- our full wegie - she has a fault: a kinked nose, but we still wanted her because she chose us) and he has the big tufted wegie ears and big fat tufted paws - plus he is huge, which fits the breed - for an 8 month old he makes our 3 and a half yr old bengal look positively small.
He met Ailsa the daft dobe briefly- Ailsa came up to snaffle the cat biscuits and I wasnt quick enough to close the dog gate- they sort of stared at one another, Charlie made himself twice the size he really is (big hair) and Ailsa looked at Charlie, then at me, then back at Charlie and gave an almighty WOOF! (which I take to mean ' not another bl**** cat!')
At that point, I thought it wise to escort daft dobe back downstairs.
Charlie will come down when he's ready, but right now he is enjoying exploring the attic- he has the window ledge, the ladder up to the high shelf so he can look out across the city and lots of toys he's enjoying playing with. Plus Minty, our elderly moggie, who is company for him when the posh cats arent around - and we are spending lots of time with him.
I dont think he's too keen on some of the other half's music choices (obviously a cat with good taste), but he loves to chill out when other half is up there. Such a sweetie.
Will get photos soon as I can- have been out of action this week with bad back (ouch). Ought not to be on here now, actually...
Oh and I'd better not read any for sale or free to good home pet posts this week as I darent adopt anything else this weekend!
OK took me ages to figure out how to upload photos to the computer but heres some of Charlie at last

Looking very wegie but not got the winter coat yet: http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u30/katkin2/Picture013.jpg
He reminds me of our first Norwegian Forest Cat, Raggy in this picture, who died aged 6 months under anasthetic (he was in the vets to be neutered and had an allergic reaction to the anasthetic, hence we now have Ashia the wegie girl). Raggy wouldve been HUGE and he was utterly gorgeous.
Here's Raggy (aka Aragorn) http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u30/katkin2/DSCF0038.jpg
Making his bigger older brother Alfie look like a tiny wimp (don't tell him I said that though):

and now cos I feel bad calling Alfie a wimp, this is the barmy bengal looking an angel for a change (it only happens when he's asleep):

Moonbird 15-08-2007, 19:22 I keep calling him 'BigFoot'. Hes' going in for the snip n chip on Friday (panic, fret etc) and I'll be gald when he's back home again - he is such a softie
You will worry after last time its only natural but i am sure he will be fine, we will need updates :D
thanks Moonbird. Yep, trying not to dwell on it. Dropping him off at 8:20am tomorrow... I'll be stuck in a boring meeting all morning so will leave it to the other half to do the ringing up thing and wil be counting the hours til 'Charlie Farley' comes back home.
Quick update on Charlie's 'op' today: have had the call from the vets - Charlie is up n about, all went as planned, he's already eating (he likes his food, does our Charlie) and ready to be collected around 3:30pm today, so I can stop whittling now.
(I had every confidence in the vets, of course, just that nagging feeling because of the one we lost 4 years ago)
Anyway, thanks for the reassurances, all. xK
Moonbird 17-08-2007, 17:19 Oh fantastic news Katkin, i knew he would be fine... i bet your spoiling him to death as we speak :hihi:
... the other half is doing more spoiling than me- I can't believe just how smitten he's become with the furry one! We had to call at Sainsburys on the way back from the vets for cooked chicken from the deli counter [for the 'patient'] and now they're both in the attic listening to some dubious wierdy gawd-forsaken music (steely dan, joni mitchell or something else guaranteed to give me a a migraine).
Fortunately (like me), he adores our other cats just as much, so no danger of the barmy bengal going into an almighty sulk, although I wish he could turn his (YOWL!!!) volume down, once in a while.
xxhunniixx 18-08-2007, 07:46 ooo katkin im so glad it went ok how r u 2 doin charlie luks fab thank you for giving him such a good home xx
Thank YOU hunnii - he's a fab cat. We are fine - I think its really funny the way the other half has taken to Charlie in such a big way- I think Charlie reminds him a lot of our first wegie Raggy, just a different colour.
You should see Charlie and Alfie on the rare occasions they have a tiff [usually over a food dish] - they both give big girly slaps - Alfie tries to slap Charlie, Charlie stands on his hind legs and bats Alf with both front paws at once, then all is well again). What a pair of wusses!
Hope you're enjoying your hols- you know your ears will be smarting when you collect loopy lottie the daft dally, don't you?
