Each year we have been picking our own strawberries from Totley fruit farm and they are delicious, now however, we have been dealt a body blow, next year will be the last time we can go there because the farmer is finishing with the fruit, as well as strawberries, he has been selling gooseberries, raspberries, blackberries, blackcurrants, redcurrants, potatoes and eggs.

The reason, we have been told is because the farmer is not selling enough and people are buying from the supermarkets instead, what a shame they will not support our own local producer, as the price is competitive and the taste is superb, perhaps it is too much like hard work for them to pick their own!!!

I am surprised that the Supermarkets have not bought this farmers fields, they seem to have lots of local farmers growing exclusively for them these days. I have been strawberry picking a few times and enjoyed it. :|

That is a thought, it could be reason he is finishing with selling to the general public and letting the Supermarkets have the whole crop. For a guaranteed regular income it would indeed pay him and he would be certain of his money every year. good thinking.

Can anyone tell me where the farm is up Penistone Road where people can pick their own strawberries, or any place where I can pick my own strawberries.

Thanks
