I have just scanned the disc that I use for storing files and programs I have downloaded.
Can someone enlighten me as to the seriousness of this message?
Should I be concerned that?

It probably means that you need to do a virus scan asap :)

I'd go for a virus scan.

I did do a quick Google of the error code but eerything came up in languages other than English. :)

What's your Operating System and what AV program are you currently using?

The seriousness probably depends on how likely you are to use the French help file.

But then if that's a cracked version of Nero that you have downloaded there, you probably have to expect them to be riddled with the odd virus and trojan....

That's a damn good point, and an excellent reason why downloading dodgy software isn't a good thing. :)

That colon in the filename looks a bit dodgy, doesn't it? ADS files can easily be used for dark deeds....

sounds to me by looking at that code...its an exploit that will crash your system if activated

wheres the code from? from a virus scan, or actually running the file?
if youve run it, i'd update your antivirus and scan your system asap

if its a virus scan message, copy everything into a folder on your drive EXCEPT the program containing the exploit, scan the folder to double check, and reburn to a new cd

i once found a virus on a cd norton never told me about, so i did that, copied to a folder and reburnt minus the infected program

yeah indeed.

viruses mostly run by people clicking exe's so they hide the exe with another less dodgy file extension such as jpg

like dodgysoftware.exe.jpg so you think its a jpg picture.
and its also dodgy that windows by default hides known file extentions so you cant tell, i have mine turned on all the time

you NEED to know what extension your running

Thanks for the replies.
Originally I had an OEM copy of Nero V6 and had looked on the net for a more recent update which I downloaded.
I can't remember if I opened and ran the program.
I have just gone into... program files.. ahead (which contains all the Nero stuff) and run an A/V check, which was clear.
I have never opened the dodgy file if it's in french and have just deleted it.
I use Vexira A/V from Central Command in the States which costs about£20+ a year and is updated every day as soon as I log on to the net.
If I scan my C drive which has my O/S (wxp/sp2) and program files I get messages telling me that access to the file by the A/V was denied or that a password was required and that it is not certain that the files are virus free.
most of these are in the Documents and Settings folder.
A couple of examples are :david.ntuser.dat.LOG and david.application.mozilla.etc

Are A/Vs usually unable to access these type of files?

In my original post I said disc...what I should have said was the partion on one of my hard discs,it's not a CD with the downloaded program on it.

boot into safe mode and try av scanning again
