I'm curious to see how many people have sight defects. Perhaps you should wear glasses or contacts but refuse or perhaps you've had your eyes corrected with laser treatment?

Watch the eyes don't get lazy staring at that VDU. :) WallBuilder 16-12-2004, 00:21 I remember watching a program when the wonders of corrective laser surgery was first brought to the publics attention. I noticed that most of the doctors and others who were very keen to say how safe it was WORE glasses, Hmmmm Siān 16-12-2004, 00:54 I have an astigmatism in each eye - one worse than the other. I can't face the thought of contact lenses (the thought of putting things into my eyeballs makes me cringe) but then I only wear my glasses for 'essential' things so it'd probably be a waste to buy contact lenses anyway. I'm not sure I'd risk laser surgery - as tempting as the idea is of not needing glasses. I'd want a whole lot more proof (long term) that the procedure's safe. I don't tend to wear my glasses for social things (unless I'm going to the cinema or need to read signposts) but I probably should - my resemblance to a bat when I'm without my glasses has been commented upon... Ant 16-12-2004, 01:12 Blind as a bat. I wear lenses. Initially (when I was younger and better looking) it was out of vanity, but now that my backside looks better than my face, it's really down to the cheapness of lenses. They were so damn expensive when I first started wearing them, but I'm on a scheme at the moment that costs me just £9 per month, for which I receive a fresh pair every month. Can't go wrong, really. Don_Kiddick 16-12-2004, 01:24 Can u send me a copy of this in Braille? A sheet of woodchip will do :hihi: A.B.Yaffle 16-12-2004, 01:29 I wear contacts while out and about, and glasses while resting my eyes. Not wearing anything now though. (On my face, that is!!) I wouldn't go for the laser treatment because it hasn't been around long enough to know about side effects and I don't think its worth risking losing my eyesight just so I don't have to put contact lenses in. Ant 16-12-2004, 02:10 Can u send me a copy of this in Braille? Wow, that bad, donkey? I'd love to see the size of your font. Er, that came out wrong. D2J 16-12-2004, 06:28 Had an eye test yesterday, was told I need glasses, not all the time just when the eyes are a bit strained. Anti Reflective what ? igm1 16-12-2004, 07:13 Mine are perfect, don't need glasses but just about everyone else in my family does! Angel05 16-12-2004, 08:04 I have to wear glasses whilst driving and watching telly... Although i dont usually wear them watching telly unless the telly is miles away an i find myself squinting lol... I do wear them whilst night driving tho... My eye sights not that good in the dark :?... To all those people with perfect eye sight... Look after it your very lucky :) Agent Orange 16-12-2004, 08:33 Only wear glasses for close work i.e. reading and computer work. Although, it's only recently that I've needed them. xafier 16-12-2004, 08:38 Last eye test I had earlier in the year came out that my eye sight was perfect... but I think I'm a bit buggered to be honest... All four of my grand parents wear/wore glasses, my parents wear glasses, my little brother wears glasses, my mums sister wears glasses, a lot of my dads brothers and sisters wear glasses... why the hell am I the only one that doesnt?... it just makes no sense, I should be blind as a bat... especially with the amount of hours I spend on a PC =\ Lickszz 16-12-2004, 17:43 Interesting that nobody has had laser treatment as of yet. I wonder would anybody consider it if it was freely available on the NHS? But no don't need them.:) nuf_said 16-12-2004, 18:48 One pair of glasses for driving and walking about. Another pair to wear indoors. Need to take glasses off and hold books at extactly 40cm from face to read close up. Apparently a normal effect of getting older - if you're unlucky. Getting worse quickly. Don't know if laser treatment could help this. But noticed a tv article which was critical of the treatment. Strix 16-12-2004, 19:39 I thought it WAS available on the NHS, lickszz? Isn't that what the current round of scaremongering is about? It said something (nothing) about it on the news yesterday or the day before. No real substance to the news item. Didn't tell us WHAT problems, just 'problems'. npatchett 16-12-2004, 20:07 Glasses all the time for me, tried contacts but just didn't get on with them. I've got used to wearing specs now and prefer wearing them to NOT wearing them. Strange eh :) mr craig 16-12-2004, 20:22 I wear glasses,my eyesight is pretty bad without them.Had a look at laser treatment but: 1) Its still pretty expensive. 2) I've been told your not supposed to have it done before your 30. 3) Even tho i think its perfectly safe myself,i'd still like to long term evidence that it is. I'm not entirely sure to be honest, and it's the laser treatment that really prompted me for this thread. I understand that it's not supposed tobe routine on the NHS. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/talking_point/4097689.stm Lickszz 16-12-2004, 21:25 Originally posted by mr craig I wear glasses,my eyesight is pretty bad without them.Had a look at laser treatment but: 1) Its still pretty expensive. 2) I've been told your not supposed to have it done before your 30. 3) Even tho i think its perfectly safe myself,i'd still like to long term evidence that it is. The treatment is still high but it's come down considerable since it was first introduced. I was initially short sighted but this has gradually got worse and it's something I have been thinking about for a long time. I price of this isn't a issue for myself but I'm more concerned with the risk factor. My eyes are generally healthy and I'm not sure operating on them in this way is wise. fuzzy 16-12-2004, 21:42 Mines fine. I used to wear glasses at school, i still have 2 pairs (with plain lenses in) that i wear on occasions because i like them. Though i think i will be screwed in the future, mam and dad both wear glasses and can't read without them. Grandma was registered blind. I don know at least one person that has had the surgery and they have no complaints. pickety-witch 16-12-2004, 22:57 i wear glasses and everyone says they suit me it doesnt bother me at all wearing them im just so used to it now i feel odd when i dont have them on i wear them all the time even tho the optician says i dont need to wear them all the time im daft lol beckyaa 17-12-2004, 00:37 Haven't had laser surgery, but have had normal eye surgery - twice, when I was about 7. At last trip to optician in August, still have perfect vision, depite being told back when had operations that it wouldn't last past about age 20 and would need glasses again. But if I needed it in future, think I would go for laser surgery. We all need oxygen ! :hihi: MeGe 17-12-2004, 11:37 I wear glasses too, I'm sort of a practical person... Can't be bothered with lenses (have tried once, for 6 months), and I don't mind wearing glasses at all... Maybe it's cause my eye problem is not that bad and I can take them off whenever I like (not while driving, in cinema etc though :) ) thebodgie 17-12-2004, 12:17 I usually wear contacts - only when i'm hungover (like today, ughh) will I wear glasses all day. |
