Sick of paying £40 + to Sky every month and wondered if anyone had switched to Virgin for a package deal. I'm a little reluctant to move my broadband from Tiscali because I get no problems.

I have been with Virgin for years, (when it was Telewest) and I can honestly say that I have never had any problems at all. The broadband is great, no download limits and the staff from my experience are always more than helpful. I recently took on a Virgin sim card, and by taking on this extra I now only pay £40 per month with it, I used to pay £52 per month without it!(and thats for broadband, top package tv and telephone including calls) I know that some people have negative things to say, but there is good and bad everywhere, and for every complaint you may hear about with Virgin, I am sure that there will be a similar one for Sky!

Cable is far better than ADSL for broadband.
But you will loose sky 1 if you switch from sky to virgin tv... which is a shame.

We feel the same - we pay for BT phone, BT internet and sky TV and would consider changing to cut costs, but wonder if it would give us more problems than its worth.

we moved from telewest in march to sky, we had phone, internet and tv from telewest so it meant goin over to BT. They offered a sky+ box for £49 instead of £100 so we took it. they offered to pay any costs movin to BT, but there wern't any. so now we pay £37 for all channels and sport, ( dont want films)£5.00 per month for internet and about a tenner line rental to BT, with evenin an weekend calls free BUT we were a month with no internet coz of probs at their end. we ended up spendin about £20 dial up for interne
t, sayin that alls well now and sky+ is brill!

but must add that if it wasn't for losin 24 and lost etc we wouldn't have budged coz the savin is only a few quid

no cable where we live sadly, so how do virgin transmit Sky signal ?

If there's no cable then you can't get Virgin... :suspect:

Virgin Media cable is much better than Sky as you won't get pixelisation when it rains/snows heavily. You will lose Sky One for a few months but they will eventually let it be shown when the petty arguments have subsided between Sky & Virgin.

Yep, Virgin Media ADSL is also now available, as the non-cable alernative to the main Virgin Media cable broadband.
I wouldn't bother then.
If you cant' get virgin with cable, just don't.

And it's already been a few months without sky 1, i have to download what i want to watch... It's very disappointing.

this is true, as VirginMedia is being sold AGAIN, and i can almost garuntee that the new people will get Sky1 back.

As I said, there will be good and bad experiences everywhere, no doubt there will be people reading this who have the same opinion of Sky. I have never personally had a problem with them, and if I have had any technical difficulties, the staff have always been friendly and helpful, but I fully appreciate that there is good and bad everywhere.
I have been a customer of Virgin/Telewest for about 11 years, so its an awful long time, and even when I moved house they transferred everything across seamlessly. I say Virgin are great, but thats my opinion.

Having been on telewest for 10+ years, i can honestly say, that in the last 12 months i have never known a service as bad, tv drops out all the time, i only have an online tv guide 50% of the time and as for the internet, i'm just sick of it, the amount of times its gone west on me in the last 12 months.

For 9 years it was never a problem, EVER!!, if it wasn't for the fact that im selling up and moving abroad i would move in a second, £37 for a 20 meg service that you get for 30% of the time :huh::huh: nope they taking the mick, thats why i have downgraded my internet, im not giving them a penny more than i need to

Was with Virgin from early yorkshire cable days and finally outed them because of poor tech support (long boring story) Switched to Sky and although the early days of my broadband were flaky the tech support was brill!! Tier 2 engineers ringing you to see if they had interogated your modem correctly - and following up with an "is everything ok call??" WOW!!!! top bannanas in my book!!

I have been with onetel and talktalk, can't remember what onetel was like but for me talktalk was RUBBISH! I have recently moved to sky, got the package, 3 for £26. I get broadband, sky tv (except sports and films, but that doesnt bother me!) and free evening and weekend calls. We have to pay for bt line rental aswell, but it hasn't let me down yet, i suppose there is still time, but so far it's brill....

Setanta Sports is free (from this Thursday - 26th) for all Virgin Media XL TV subscribers.

im thinking of trying virgin media out but only because of a crappy basic broadband connection i know the 20mb from virgin is throttled at certain times of the day (like bt) but to have a super fast connection is a dream i would never have with bt

It's only throttled if you download 3gb between 16:00 and midnight. Very easy to do on a 20MB connection! :D

bt throttle at those times as well i manage to download under 3gb on average a day on a basic 512 connection ive no chance of been bumped up to 1mb as im too far from the exchange so it looks like its going to be virgin media for me

one thing i am worried about is that ive been a bt broadband customer for nearly 3 years now does that mean i can leave at anytime ?

The OD is great, and you do get HD channels as long as you have the V+ Box which you need to decode HD signals.

Sound. The HD channels are £10 a month extra on sky. Are they on Virgin or do they come as standard with the XL package?

Don't know if you need to pay extra as I don't have a V+ box, but the internet is sound. I'm on the 20Mbps XL package, along with standard (non-HD) XL TV and phone line for about £45 a month.

you only get BBC-HD which only has shows for a few hours a day. It's a joy to watch HD though. I get XL TV. V+box and L broadband and eve & weekend calls for £40 month but that took some threatening to leave phone calls.

Also I've had no end of problems (i joined with telewest) and though they all get sorted in the end it's a right pain. I find the best way to sort a problem is to ask the operator to spell their name as you are recording the phone call. they soon go out of their way to get you sorted over the phone rather than the default "I'll book an engineer to be with you in 5 working days"

They have a fair amount of on demand HD content as well as BBC HD.

BTW all SKY tv that was removed from Virgin is back on :thumbsup:
