Swan_Vesta 15-12-2004, 14:36 Hi, I'm pretty sure if you contacted the Beth Din in Manchester (I think that's the nearest one) they'd be able to provide you with any info you need. If there's a kosher food supplier in Sheff then they'd know for sure. Longcol 15-12-2004, 17:18 There was a small kosher section in Waitrose last time I looked - first aisle after the fruit & veg, about 1/3rd way down from back of shop on left hand side. Lickszz 15-12-2004, 22:50 Tesco on Abbeydale road used to have a small selection. Shine 16-12-2004, 06:58 There's loads of shops on London Road that seek kosher meat, if conventional farming methods aren't cruel enough for you... tas1 16-12-2004, 07:44 There is some kosher food at Waitrose - second chiller isle, on the left if your walking from the back of the shop to the front. it's after the veggie stuff section and before pate. venger 16-12-2004, 08:49 Originally posted by Shine There's loads of shops on London Road that seek kosher meat, if conventional farming methods aren't cruel enough for you... Kosher meat and fowl must be slaughtered by a specially trained expert in a painless ritual fashion in order to be acceptable. Do you know something we do not? jake 16-12-2004, 09:19 Originally posted by Shine There's loads of shops on London Road that seek kosher meat, if conventional farming methods aren't cruel enough for you... Are you sure you're not mixing up Kosher & Halal? Most of the shops on London Rd sell Halal meat (to Islamic rules) but not Kosher (to Jewish rules). I seem to remember there used to be Kosher van came over from Manchester years ago.. but not sure if its still running.. but as a lapsed catholic vegetarian - doesnt really affect me too much! Shine 17-12-2004, 07:22 As far as I was aware animals killed for both kosher and halal meat are killed by having their throats slit and waiting for them to bleed to death - a process which can last several minutes. I may be wrong, though. I'll check when I come back from work. |
